All, I want to publicly thank Marc Wheat for calling me this evening and spending time with me explaining the "why" of several issues that were brought up on this list and to which I also chimed in. There are indeed two sides to every story and a lot of what he said made sense once explained in detail. It was very kind of him to spend so much time with a member. While we don't necessarily agree on the very public stance the Foundation has taken on recent real estate development projects, he did explain the reasons why and the background to them all. My phone battery cut off before we could discuss the land conservation easement, which is irreversible but he did acknowledge that was the case and perhaps may have changed his mind on it. Underline may because we did cut off. To conclude, I again want to thank Marc for calling me and having such a productive conversation on issues I really was confused about. I asked him to explain, and he did. And kudos to him for doing so. Marc, get well soon. (He has the flu). Craig Kilby
Thanks Craig for posting your interaction with Marc. A phone conversation is still the best to face to face for communication. I feel much better about the situation. The little spin off groups are easy to form in this day of instance communication. I still prefer face-to-face, and if not possible, phone conversation, the old fashion way. Now onward re our historical & genealogical research putting history together the way each of us see it. Anyhow, Thanks again Craig. Cary
Cary, As you suggest, spin off groups are easy to do, and this not a big surprise. There are some hard feelings. I wish it wasn't so. There are many misunderstandings . That Marc called me and explained his side of things meant a lot to me. I served six years in the Missouri Legislature. I bring this up to only say I learned how to say "I was wrong" many times. I am the first to say I am sorry. Too often, people get stuck in the "I am right!" mode of thinking. The best thing I ever learned was to say "I've changed my mind." To put this in perspective, I'll never forget a remark by a political operative in St. Louis who, when confronted with a contradiction of her own making, said "Since when did I lose the right to change my mind?" And that is what we often do in genealogy. Always good to hear from you, Cary Craig Kilby On Oct 31, 2011, at 12:21 PM, Cary Anderson wrote: > Thanks Craig for posting your interaction with Marc.
