And I admit I made a mistake in not completing the maiden name of Letitia Whitesides KEMPER as being the second wife of Jacob Coons Sr. (I apologize for that). However, Jacob Coons Jr, is not my ancestor. I descend from his half brother, James Coons (son of Jacob Coons Sr. and his first wife Elizabeth Hanback) namedly James Coons b abt 1767 Culpeper, VA d. bet 1815-1816 Madison Co, VA. md 25 Nov 1791 Culpeper, VA. to Ann(e) At(t)wood (Baptist) minister was John Hickerson (Vogt & Kethley, 1986) Ann(e) Attwood was b 20 Feb 1776 Culpeper, VA. d. 23 Jan 1859 Tipton, Indiana. James Coons did not remove to KY w his father and siblings, but remained in Culpeper VA.where the tithables show he died 1815-1816 , as he is replaced by his widow Ann Coons in 1816 (however his inventory seems not to have been recorded until abt 1821). Culpeper Co. WB G. pg 309. 1810 census has James Coons in Culpepr Co, VA. The Culpeper Tihables show James Coons charged with 2 tithables in 1812 & 1815, indicating a son born abt 1796 or earlier. This son seems to have been James Coons, who as "James Coons son af (sic; i.e., of ) James" to distinguish him from his father's first cousin "James Coons, son of Joseph"is shown as an independant tithable in 1820 and 1822. (Holtzclaw, 1964, 98). James' widow, Ann (At(t)wood) COONS is listed on the 1820 Census in Culpeper, VA. After the early demise of her husband, James, she removed to Indiana, with her 9 children abt 1823. My maternal lines are from the daughter of James Coons & Ann(e) At(t)wood namedly Lucinda aka Lucy Coons b 14 Feb 1811 VA d 03 Aug 1873 Blue River Twnp, Johnson, Indiana md Richard FOSTER b 1802 IND or VA d 1877 Tipton, IND.
