Sarge, I was about five when my sister gave birth in 1947. She was a wartime bride, but her husband did live far away--22 miles. My father insisted a bed be set up in the living room. She was brought from The county seat, 14 miles away, by ambulance of some sort--probably a hearse. I don't know exactly how long she state bed-fast, but it seemed an eternity as I was no longer the pet of the family as being the youngest, son, grandson, and great-grandson! I have heard of a few cases of an expectant mother giving birth in a church, during the mass or service. Now, I guess that might be a case where the mother was present at the baptism. I will try to be silent for awhile. I fear I am going from the ridiculous to the insane. But it is the truth all I write except the previous sentence.
