In Ortssippenbuch, each family, i.e., one man and one woman and their children, has a different entry or family number. If a man is married twice, he will appear with two entry numbers, one for each wife. The same thing would apply to women who marry twice. John Blankenbaker
This is all very interesting, bit so far only one person on these lists seems to have picked up on the fact that the wife of John-2 Holtzclaw was Elizabeth Thomas, widow of EDMOND Thomas. I will say it again in case everyone was asleep the first time around. This widow of Edmond Thomas married, apparently while pregnant. to John-2 Holtzclaw and named her new son Jacob Thomas, after his (John's) father. I do NOT think that Edmond Thomas, the father was a German. So, we may have ENGLISH THOMAS and other possibly German THOMA/THOMAS peope all mixed up. DNA testing would be most interesting, though I don't think we can go back far enough in time to prove it, especially if everyone is pre-convinced it is a German family. Sometimes we have to think outside of our original ideas.
