    2. James Ellison, Jr. is my DAR patriot. His father was James Ellison I m.Ann English Addis (widow of Thomas Addis). James I and Ann English had several children. They moved from N.J. to what is now West Virginia. I don't know if it is appropriate to get into much of a detailed discussion on this site, but there was at least one marriage to a Swope - in my information there is a note that a descendant of John L, son of James I and Ann English, a Nancy b. 1827 m. David Swope - no date. I strongly suspect the Ellisons of New Jersy are connected to those in West Virginia. In a message dated 9/25/2011 7:40:20 A.M. 3. I am excited to make this connection -- maybe we could move the discussion to Germans-VA at Rootsweb since the Swopes/Schwabs were German. Of course you are also saying there is a significant Germanna presence in Monroe County, as well. Maybe some of the other Ellison children married Germanna people? Anyway, according to the undocumented information I collected, your James Ellison, Jr., would be the brother to my ancestress Mary Eleanor Ellison, who married Michael Swope. According to family legend, Michael Swope was a spy with Francis Marion. But unlike me, you have some documented information! I have James Ellison m. Ann English (I had the Addis name but did not know why). The children I have listed were my ancestor Mary Eleanor, b. 1755, Burlington Co., NJ, James Isaac Ellison, who must be your ancestor, John L. Ellison m. Ann Frances Paul, Joseph Ellison, Asa Ellison, b. 1762 in Burlington Co., NJ, Anne Ellison, Ruth Ellison, and Marcey Ellison.
