Marilyn, Thank you for the link to Jacob Coons, Jr. info. I always enjoy having info to add to my extended family tree. And I admit I made a mistake in not completing the maiden name of Letitia Whitesides KEMPER as being the second wife of Jacob Coons Sr. (I apologize for that). However, Jacob Coons Jr, is not my ancestor. I descend from his half brother, James Coons (son of Jacob Coons Sr. and his first wife Elizabeth Hanback) namedly James Coons b abt 1767 Culpeper, VA d. bet 1815-1816 Madison Co, VA. md 25 Nov 1791 Culpeper, VA. to Ann(e) At(t)wood (Baptist) minister was John Hickerson (Vogt & Kethley, 1986) Ann(e) Attwood was b 20 Feb 1776 Culpeper, VA. d. 23 Jan 1859 Tipton, Indiana. James Coons did not remove to KY w his father and siblings, but remained in Culpeper VA.where the tithables show he died 1815-1816 , as he is replaced by his widow Ann Coons in 1816 (however his inventory seems not to have been recorded until abt 1821). Culpeper Co. WB G. pg 309. 1810 census has James Coons in Culpepr Co, VA. The Culpeper Tihables show James Coons charged with 2 tithables in 1812 & 1815, indicating a son born abt 1796 or earlier. This son seems to have been James Coons, who as "James Coons son af (sic; i.e., of ) James" to distinguish him from his father's first cousin "James Coons, son of Joseph"is shown as an independant tithable in 1820 and 1822. (Holtzclaw, 1964, 98). James' widow, Ann (At(t)wood) COONS is listed on the 1820 Census in Culpeper, VA. After the early demise of her husband, James, she removed to Indiana, with her 9 children abt 1823. My maternal lines are from the daughter of James Coons & Ann(e) At(t)wood namedly Lucinda aka Lucy Coons b 14 Feb 1811 VA d 03 Aug 1873 Blue River Twnp, Johnson, Indiana md Richard FOSTER b 1802 IND or VA d 1877 Tipton, IND. (son of William Foster and MArgaret Buster). > Correction to my earlier post: > The second wife of Jacob Coons (Sr.) was Letitia Whitesides KEMPER, not > Letitia Whitesides.

http://www2.starexponent.com/news/2011/oct/06/symposium-inform-about-historic-masonry-restoratio-ar-1362697/ Symposium to inform about historic masonry restoration By Rhonda Simmons Culpeper Star Exponent October 6, 2011 Page 1 The 5.8-magnitude earthquake in August not only rattled a few historic structures in Culpeper, the shocking tremor also forced local officials to make difficult decisions of whether to tear down an old building steeped in rich history. Just a few days after the Aug. 23 earthquake, a decision was made to demolish the heavily damaged Levy building on Main Street. As a potential option, the Germanna Foundation, Virginia Department of Historic Resources, Germanna Community College and Preservation Virginia want to help folks with alternatives on how to preserve old damaged structures. These organizations will host a Historic Masonry Restoration Symposium at the circa 1756 Salubria manor, located about seven miles east of the town of Culpeper off of Route 3 in Stevensburg, on Oct. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost of admission is $20, which includes lunch. “This symposium will provide very helpful professional insight into repair of earthquake-damaged historic masonry,” said Kathy Ellis, Germanna Foundation trustee. According to organizers, this event is geared toward owners of historic masonry buildings that endured damage in the earthquake on Aug. 23 or from another natural cause. “Homeowners, general contractors, building managers, masons, architectural historians, planners, students of cultural history and all those who admire fine historic brickwork will be captivated by this insightful educational event,” said Karen Quanbeck, Germanna Foundation executive director. Quanbeck added that the symposium will also focus on the most suitable restoration techniques to repair the recent earthquake damage to the historic masonry of Salubria. Both of Salubria’s 19-foot high chimneys suffered extensive damage during the Aug. 23 earthquake. The tremors also created several “significant stress cracks on the manor’s second floor walls,” she said. Owned by the Memorial Foundation of Germanna Colonies in Virginia, Inc., Rev. John Thompson of Little Fork Church built the 3,600-square-foot house for his wife, Lady Buter Brayne Spotswood Thompson, the widow of Virginia governor Alexander Spotswood. Other topics of the symposium will include an introduction to “The Lime Cycle” and authentic 18th century Virginia brick masonry techniques, a variety of lime mortars, putties, stuccoes and paints; demonstrations of lime slaking; stress crack repair with casein mortar injection, broken brick replacement, repointing and rebuilding of ruptured chimney stacks, custom replica brick manufacturing, historic repointing demonstrations, finish dressing for new joint work and critical fall weather protection for curing lime mortar. Jimmy and Jeffrey Price of Price Masonry and representatives from Virginia Lime Works will provide several hands-on techniques and demonstrations for repairing masonry. Tim Winther of Crest Hill Stoneworks and Jason Whitehead of Custom Brickmaker will also contribute to the informational sessions. Master craftsman Gordon Lohr, a noted Virginia building historian, will also demonstrate wood planning techniques and discuss details of the upcoming restoration work on Salubria’s windows. Well-known architect Doug Harnsberger, a published architectural historian, will serve as the event’s facilitator. Want to go? What: Historic Masonry Restoration Symposium Where: Salubria, 19000 Salubria Lane, off of Route 3 in Stevensburg about seven miles east of the town of Culpeper When: Oct. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission: $20 (includes lunch) To register visit www.germanna.org/node/445 or call the Germanna Foundation at 423-1700. Pre-registration is encouraged as seating is limited.

Steve, I agree with all your conclusions. Most importantly, dates just don't bear out what others have "surmised". As I said, it would have been unusual for Lovel's parents to have been married at such a late age. Solomon must have been married earlier to an unknown wife, from which such marriage resulted in "Lovel". We just have to find some evidence of the earlier marriage. From Wiki: "Jobs was born in San Francisco and was adopted by the family of Paul Jobs and Clara Jobs (née Hagopian) of Mountain View, California. Paul and Clara later adopted a daughter, Patti. Jobs' biological parentsAbdulfattah John Jandali, a Syrian Muslim immigrant to the U.S., who later became a political science professor at the University of Nevada and is presently a vice president of Boomtown Hotel Casino in Reno, Nevada, and Joanne SCHEIBLE (later Simpson), an American graduate student of SWISS AND GERMAN ANCESTRY, who went on to become a speech language pathologisteventually married. The marriage produced Jobs' biological sister, novelist Mona Simpson; the two of them first met in 1986 as adults and enjoyed a close relationship since, with Jobs regularly visiting Simpson in Manhattan. From Simpson, Jobs learned more about their birth parents and he invited his biological mother Joanne to some events. Jandali claims that he didn't want to put Jobs up for adoption but th! at Simpson's (Scheible's) parents did not approve of her marrying a Syrian. Jandali's few attempts to contact Jobs were unsuccessful; Jobs did not contact his biological father either. Jandali gave an interview to The Sun in August 2011 when Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple; Jandali also mailed in his medical history after Jobs' pancreatic disorder was made public that year. I figured, but thanks for the confirmation. I am just surprised by the lack of interest in what are Blankenbakers from the Germanna folks! I saw tons of emails back and forth on how to get onto HeritageQuest (guess I'm spoiled, our library offers at home access) but when there is something 'live' happening for our shared ancestors - nothing. Not even a 'send us a report' or 'how great!' or 'give our best to Von Blankenbaker for taking the time/effort' I am sort of disappointed in the lack of interest - these are direct descendants of Germanna - Joel was born in Virginia. To: germanna_colonies@rootsweb.com Date: Friday, September 30, 2011, 1:44 PM Hi, I am sending along this information on behalf of Von Blankenbaker, who is spearheading the project of restoring the Harris/Blankenbaker Family Cemetary in the cornfield with which it is surrounded. Many of the stones therein were vandalized over the years and are not set on their bases. The headstones of our relatives: Joel Blankenbaker and Suzanna House are very much legible still, but are broken. Hence the restoration. I myself 'discovered' the plot some years ago with my son Nick. We were led there by a Thornton Cousin, Genevieve Williamson, saying that Joel and Suzanna were buried in their daughter's husband's farm cemetary. It is found when the corn is up by looking for the tree that marks the center of the cemetary. We had quite an adventure that day. It is listed now on the Newton County Indiana map as Harris Cemetary. When Von originally set out to get this resurected, the county was involved, but the Indiana State rules say that unless the land belongs to the county, no upkeep nor restoration can be paid for with public funds. Since the farmer is not willing to sell the land to the county, that is no longer an option. The farmer did agree however to allow access to family and to allow restoration work to be completed. The original contact for the county project restoration priced the work at about $2000 with some of the exploration and marking of the stones to be acomplished by outside parties (aka relatives). We are set to do just that later in October once the harvest is in. I agreed to come down to assist - sounds like fun! I have attached some of the information that Von forwarded to me, (if it doesn't not come through with this email, email me at awalker719@yahoo.com, I will send to you) he has asked that I share with any cousins of House/Blankenbaker that I know in the hopes any of us can help financially as well, since he and his immediate family are bearing the cost to date. Von has also done an abreviated genealogy report on them, going forward in time, but not backward - Joel was born in Virginia, and is a direct to Germanna - if you wish more information on his lineage, I can provide - but I would believe most everyone connected to him knows who he and his family are....please look through the information...this is an opportunity to do something positive in our genealogy work. All the best - Avis Walker - my great grandmother was Joel's daughter, Louisa Mildred Blankenbaker married to George R. Thornton, who had 8 children...Clinton Dewitt my grandfather.
The Weekly Genealogist (New England Historic Genealogical Society) recently sent out a notification that JSTOR will make journal content published in the USA prior to 1923 and elsewhere prior to 1870 available free to anyone in the world. Sometimes when I am searching for an ancestor, I get hits that bring me to a document on JSTOR. Kathy, One slight change to what I said...in my case, the library I was talking about was the Boston Public Library, which is the library in our state capital. I have not researched whether or not our State Library of Massachusetts has Heritage Quest Online. Lee Anne
Kathy, Although your city may not have Heritage Quest, your state library may. I don't know how your state library works, but ours allows anyone who lives in the state to get a library card. Check with your state library to see if it does too and if it has Heritage Quest Online that you can use remotely and in the library. It is likely that your state library has Heritage Quest Online, JSTOR and other things you might be interested in. You probably can find out by calling, although you will probably have to go into the library to get the card. Lee Anne
Actually that wasn't hard at all. Since I just lost access 3 weeks ago I hadn't actually looked into other sources. The subject on the list was very timely. Thanks again. <snip> How hard was that?
Chocy, I haven't gotten into it yet, but they do have a very good web page/site where I did get the information. I live about 3 miles from the L. A. county line, so I'll just head over to the closest branch available.
