Thanks Query: Children of Tobias and Catherine? In Tobias's will( 1761) he listed Michael, Conrad, Catherine, Mary, Jesse, William. I need to know if Joel b c 1743, John b c 1745 and Lewis b c 1747 also belonged and were not mentioned in the will as other children received some payment of some sort.

No, Winnie, you cannot attach files to any rootsweb message. They told you that when signed up for it. You can write and send anything, but you can NOT attach any files. A lot happening this week in Germanna country, including proposals that will change how future generations enjoy the scenery where our families' narrative of becoming Americans first began. See more on Germanna-related events tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday: http://www.germanna.org/all_news
I didn't plan to send a file. All I wanted to do was find out why I couldn't ask a question. This is the first question in weeks that went through.
I somehow missed the original post, Avis. I think it is wonderful to clean up & repair cemeteries & stones and I have participated in that myself. I am going to look for the original message by you on this. I descend from Juliana (also seen as Julia Anna Blankenbaker) who married John Huffman/Hoffman. Julianna & John had a daughter, Ellen, who married Arnold Nethers. What was once known as Huffman/Hoffman mill near Old Rag Mountain (and prior to the Huffmans, was owned by an Aylor) became known as nethers mill. i have visited twice (the past two weekends). On Sunday,October 2, I had to rush back home to get ready for a wedding that afternoon. My cousin, Anne, who was up there, too, stopped on the private land where we know there is a Huffman cemetery and spoke to the owner at length. She and I will get together soon so I can learn more of what she discovered. We want to make sure it is kept nice and there are headers...if anyone knows exactly who is buried there.... also, I list one more child for Ludwig and Susannah - Hannah (b. 29 Mar 1798 & mrd Samson Weaver; Germanna Record 13 - do not know if this is erroneous info or not). My Bowen line - my dad was Lucien Walker Bowen, Jr. (though his dad spelled it Lucian), b. 30 Jun 1919 in Brandy Station, Culpeper Co., VA has some Thornton connection going back. Both his lines have multiple Germanna ancestors. I hope you don't mind - I would like to add your branch to my tree~ On Wed, Oct 12, 2011 at 3:27 PM, avis walker <awalker719@yahoo.com> wrote: > Thanks so much, your reply is heartening - and much appreciated. > The Blankenbakers, Harris', Reed and Ham families are, I think, more at > peace with their graves properly identified and marked. Thanks so much, your reply is heartening - and much appreciated. The Blankenbakers, Harris', Reed and Ham families are, I think, more at peace with their graves properly identified and marked. We had a wonderful day Monday probing for parts of the headstones etc. I actually found a footstone and some other pieces! My son and his girlfriend took off work and came as well, wonderful to have young people interested and involved, I am blessed. As close to archeology as I will see - the restoration company did miracles cleaning and piecing and resetting the stones. Von is to be given so much credit for making this all happen - he took classes to be certified by the State of Indiana to do the work and oversee the operation, as well as everything else he's done. There are pictures of the before and after available, I would be happy to email to anyone interested - thank you again Mark for the kind words. Jeff, JSTOR has both the Magazine of History (short title) but a whole lot more, including the William & Mary Quarterly since its first issue. I am not sure JSTOR is making any of this free. I access it through the Rappahannock Regional Library. The key to finding articles used to be with the Earl Swemm index. These days, it is probably searchable via a search engine. However, if JSTOR is making this content available for free now, it will be a great boon. Tonnie Cates brought to my attention some duplications in the COONS/KUNTZ and HANBACK/HANBACH/HEIMBACH families. Someone, instead of checking to see if those people were in the database, entered them all as new additions. This really made a mess, but I "think" I have consolidated all the duplications. PLEASE! CHECK BEFORE ADDING ANYONE TO SEE IF HE/SHE IS ALREADY IN THE DATABASE. I think all of you Germanna researchers are familiar enough with the spelling variants of surnames to know to search for all variants before adding anyone. When you search to see if anyone is already in the database, you can, for example, type in Jacob, pause a few seconds to allow the Ancestry program to find all people named Jacob, then look down the list to see if your Jacob is already there with a different spelling variation. Or, if you want to enter Jacob COONS, check first for Jacob KUNTZ, e.g. Sarge Germanna Database at Ancestry: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/28427876/recent?o_iid=41125&o_lid=41125&o_sch=Web+Property My Germanna Database at Rootsweb: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=germanna My Germanna Website at Rootsweb: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~george/index.html
Hi, I had to leave quickly and finish my previous post quicker than I'd like. In my haste, I made some errors, so here's the post again with better information and the errors corrected. Again, below is the excerpt on the announcement from The Weekly Genealogist, an e-mail I get as a member of the NEHGS. If you go to the link I gave you previously http://about.jstor.org/participate-jstor/individuals/early-journal-content, you can click to see a short video on accessing the early journals. The best way to search is with the Advanced Search because it allows you to narrow your search to only the content you can access for free and to a specific journal that you name and/or whatever you want to search for. To reach the Advanced Search, click on the Use JSTOR at the top of the page. Then click on Advanced Search (under the search box that appears). However, if you don't want to use the Advanced Search and don't mind sifting through non-free and free results, you can use the simple search box that appears after you click on Use JSTOR. That said, here are corrections to the first search results that I listed in my previous e-mail and that appeared when I used only the simple search box that appears after you click on Search JSTOR. The search was on the words William and Mary Quarterly. With this simple search, free access results are mixed in with other types of results. Examples of three free access results for that search were on the first page of results, William Massie's Will, The William and Mary Quarterly, Vol. 27, No. 4 (Apr., 1919), pp. 244-246; Letters from William and Mary College, 1798-1801, The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Vol. 29, No. 2 (Apr., 1921), pp. 129-179 and Letters from William Franklin to William Strahan, Vol. 35, No. 4 (1911), pp. 415-462; The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography, Vol. 35, No. 4 (1911), pp. 414-462. There were two more free access results for the third page of results, A Letter from Mary [Mrs. Moses] Austin, The Quarterly of the Texas State Historical Association, Vol. 10, No. 4 (Apr., 1907), pp. 343-346 and The Will of Mary Cary of Surry County, The William and Mary Quarterly, Second Series, Vol. 20, No. 4 (Apr., 1912), pp. 289-292. I don't know any more than I've just told you, as I have not done an exhaustive search, nor have I looked at all of the 4,098 pages of results for that search. Lee Anne ********************************** JSTOR Offers Early Journal Content for Free JSTOR, a not-for-profit scholarly digital archive which primarily serves libraries and academic institutions, has announced it will make its "journal content published prior to 1923 in the United States and prior to 1870 elsewhere freely available to anyone, anywhere in the world. This Early Journal Content includes discourse and scholarship in the arts and humanities, economics and politics, and in mathematics and other sciences. It includes nearly 500,000 articles from more than 200 journals . . . Making the Early Journal Content freely available is a first step in a larger effort to provide more access options to the content on JSTOR for these individuals."
Hello Tonnie, Yes, I see that Jacob is entered twice, once as COONS and once as KUNTZ. In the original database, he was listed as Jacob KUNTZ, with an AKA of Jacob COONS. Someone else entered the duplicate Jacob COONS after I posted the database. Again, he/she did so without checking to see if the person was already in the database, with a different variant spelling of the surname. Yes, there are NOW duplicate entries for Jacob KOONTZ/COONS, his wife, her parents, etc., BECAUSE someone added Jacob COONS without checking to see if he, his spouse, parents, etc,, were already in the database. I looked to see if I could delete/merge/correct the duplicate entries, but it is going to take some time. This one is not an easy job! Don't worry, what you entered is OK. Just wish I knew who made the duplications. I "think" I've now fixed the duplication problem. Please check it out and let me know if I messed up anywhere. I changed "Jacob KUNTZ aka COONS" to "Jacob COONS", with an AKA fact of "Jacob KUNTZ". I think that instead of listing someone like "Jacob KUNTZ aka COONS" it is better to enter him with the more common name (in this case COONS) and then making an AKA fact for the other surname. Just my preference, and it does make it easier to find someone in the database. Sarge At 10/9/2011 02:01 PM Sunday, Wetaunah Cates wrote: *********START OF ORIGINAL MESSAGE TEXT********* Sarge, you stated "Please, don't duplicate people in the database! If there are errors, such as wrong parents, spouses, etc., either try to make corrections TO THE PERSON, rather adding him/her again. If you don't feel comfortable making corrections, contact me and tell me what is wrong, what corrections you suggest, additions, deletions, etc., and if we come to an agreement I'll make the changes. Just remember that if you haven't worked extensively with a Shared Tree at Ancestry and learned how to do things, you could easily make things worse. Detaching a person from parents and re-attaching to a different set of parents is NOT easy". Regards, Sarge. I am a descendant of Johann Jost (Joseph) Coons b. 1712 Germany d. 1794 Culpeper, or Madison VA, (son of Johannes Kuntze & Anna Gertrude Steiger) Joseph Coons md Elizabeth Mnu Coons abt 1716 VA - 1782 Little Fork, Culpeper, VA. My maternal ancestry is through thier son Jacob Coons 1740-1747 Culpeper VA - 1807-1808 Montgomery, KY (md x2) , with his wfie #1, Elizabeth Heimbach (Hanback) 1747 VA - 1793 Culpeper, VA (he md #2, Letita Whitsides). As I was looking for the person to add my info into your tree, there are two individuals, that are the same person, one is Jacob Kuntz (no parents listed) md to Elizabeth Hanback (which is correctly showing her parents are Johan Jacob Hanback & Mary Gertrude Jung (Young). and another Jacob Coons md to Elizabeth Hanback which shows no parents for her, or him. So, I added some of my data to the "Jacob Kuntz " and Elizabeth Hanback, but edited his name to be as Jacob Kuntz aka w surname as COONS. I hope I did not do this too wrongly. I have not added their children yet. I did add some tax list information from ancestry sources, and photos' but am reluctant to continue adding anything further, until I have your approval on what I have entered so far. There are already many duplicate entries on these ancestors, and I am finding it too hard to decide which ones to work with. So I feel I should ask you to correct and or delete my added information, and help me straighten out the tree, and then I'll add back my data. Any Help at all will be appreciated. And I apologize for not seeking your help to begin with. I am a subscriber and have trees on ancestry.com. So I do realize and appreciate the concerns in your statements. I look forward to your advice and guidance. Wetaunah, Thanks for the clarification -- and I'm sorry I misunderstood. There are an awful lot of Coons men with the same given names (especially James, John and Jacob)!
