The Germanna Foundation isn't really involved in this project. It's just something I decided to do after being asked by Jim Albin (President of the Germanna "Association") if I would do it. Marc Wheat (President of the Germanna "Foundation") is aware of my very ambitions project (paraphrasing an email from him) and, so far, no one has "dissed" it. Just be aware that any data you send may take a while to show up in the databases. Seems like every time I start entering new data, I find familial links to other Germanna families (1st and 2nd Colonies) and always try to trace them down before completing the new data. That sometimes takes days. If you want to send the data for Joel BLANKENBAKER, please don't send a GEDCOM. (I detest those things!) Just prepare a Report of some kind from your genealogy program. Pedigree Charts, Family Group Sheets, Narrative Reports, etc., are OK. Descendant Lists are also OK. Some cousins send me files they have composed in MS Word even. As long as it's easily read. I really don't like "Ahnentafels" because it takes too long to sort out the different generations. Send your data, Sarge (Please don't send here to this Mailing List! Send to: GermannaResearch@comcast.net with a subject line that describes what you're sending.)

    3. I have gotten in on the end of this discussion of the new book so do not have the facts etc. "The Second Germanna Colony and Other Pioneers" by John Blankenbaker. Would appreciate knowing how I may purchase this volume. Do you have to attend the "Reunion" to purchase? I would certainly like to have a copy. My German ancestors are the Snyders who apparently are of the 2nd Germana Colony. John Snyder with sons, Michael, John and Adam. Also have Stiglers but Samuel came from King George Co. before purchasing 400 ac near Piney Mt. in Culpeper Co. Then there is Thomas Brown (d 1786) but.. another story,. However the title has in it "and other Pioneers". That sounds most interesting. Appreciate any info. 3. Sarge: At present, all the information is in my computer (lumps, bumps, warts, and all). I haven't posted it to an internet site, since I look at it as a "work in progress". If you would like information on a particular person, or line, just email me with your request. I would appreciate it if anybody, making a request, would please include the name, approximate birth date, etc., as there are many people with the same names. Since there are over 30,000 entries, it would be a BIG file, if I were to send it all. I just came across information that was sent to me, re: Sarah FLESHMAN, daughter of Robert FLESHMAN and Dorothea BAUMGARDNER. Sarah was b. 1778 in Greenbrier County, VA (now WV) and married James STEWART b. 2/27/1772 in Greenbrier County. They married 11/06/1795 in Greenbrier County. James died 3/01/1835 in Greene County, IN. Sarah died between 1832 and 1834 in Greene County, IN. I found this information to be fascinating, since Sarah seems to have been left out of every document, with one exception, regarding any relationship to her family. In fact, a family monument, which was built in the early 1980s, by FLESHMAN descendants, to encase the one fieldstone marker (Robert's) found at the family burial site (with an old maple tree growing around it) on Muddy Creek Mountain, does not list Sarah and her spouse on the bronze marker, which was made and affixed to the monument. All other children and their spouses are on the marker. The file I received, includes the descendants of James and Sarah. I am currently entering them in my database. Of course, finding the "missing person" leads one to ask questions. Was Sarah "disowned" because she married a man of the LDS faith? Their daughter wrote a very interesting story about how these people were persecuted. I love finding the stories about the ancestors. Of course, I've got a lot of researching to do on this group, too. That is only one file, of a HUGE stack, which I received from connections I had made, before my life came to a sudden WHOA. I can hardly wait to see what awaits me, as I work my way through this pile. Of course, I'd rather do research than eat. I have worked on lookups, from time to time, as I have a large library of books, including a complete set of Greenbrier County Cemetery books. Let me know what you need and I'll see if I have it.
