Marilyn, You are thinking right down my path :>). I think it would be awesome to do this in Old world history format. WHy or WHY does FTDNA label people from Germany German. Most people migrated from region before Germany was created 1880s' IT gives us a misnomer for research. I am hoping this winter to realign the regions family came from in the 1600's 1700,s and 1800s. It definitely was not Germany then. Some may be Germanic origin but most were not. :>) Few understand this. Susi ************** Get fantasy football with free live scoring. There was a Kilgus, Rouse and Schmidt Family in KY that came from Germany. I know John Christian Kilgus and family came from PA after coming over from Germany to Louisville, KY. My step-father was Roger Schmidt Kilgus. I think some of them lived over the river in Indiana for a while. Somewhere I have some information. Isabelle Schmidt married Christian F Kilgus. Thank you. My son is doing the 48 markers for Schmidt. Anita, Would this be the line of Hans Michael Schmidt/Smith. I descend from that line also and am collecting haplogroup results from all my ancestors. Not that I carry all of this DNA but it is interesting to me to see the various migration patterns. When you get the results, I'ld love to know what haplogroup. Our THOMA/THOMAS is E3b which is an unusal group for the majority of the THOMAS group. I suspect that we were probably something else in an earlier life that got changed along the way. E3b is predominant in the Middle East/Mediterranean area so we may even have been Jewish at some point in time. I had to smile thinking of this because that whole area was predominantly Jewish or Roman just a little over 2000 years ago with the Turks and others thrown into the mix. Anyway, I probably have my early history pretty mixed up -- so will stop before I dig the hole any deeper. TAke care. Marilyn
This Schmidt family is not connected with Germanna. Heinrich Franz Schmidt was born 12 March 1871 in Gelnhausen, Hesse, Germany. He graduated from the University of Heidelberg as an Evangelisch Pfarrer. He came to Dixon, IL after graduation and marriage (21 July 1896) to AnnaMartha Catherina Kessler of Verden am Aller, Hesse, Germany and came as a Lutheran missionary pastor. The family was in Gelnhausen from the 1600's. If anyone is connected to the Kessler or Schmidt families, I would like to exchange information. When my son receives the Y-DNA results, I would like to compare with the Schmidts of the Germanna group as we do not know where the Schmidts were before Gelnhausen. It is also not known where the Rausch/Rouse family originated in Germany. Marc, Sounds good. I'm working on verifying the information on my Holtzclaw lines. I have been collecting information for 40+ years. My line is missing in George's data. A couple of years ago Susan Holsclaw organized and copied Holtzclaw data from several descendants, and filed a paper copy at the Foundation Library. It is in various formats. I know the information I gave her has some errors. I will be happy to share again when my data is more accurate. Count me in! Hello Germanna Cousins, I am a bit confused on the entry in the Germanna Families entry for Melchoir Brumbach. I have based my information on Melchoir's birth, marriage etc on the research of B. C. Holtzsclaw found in "Ancestry and Descendants of the Nassau-Siegen Immigrants to Virginia, 1714-1750." I agree that within Mr. Holtzsclaw's presentation of exactly who Melchoir descends from and the specific information on his date of birth and some discussion on the rational of whom he married I believe that he was fairly specific in his findings that Melchoir arrived in the Colonies as a batchelor - aged about 29 (b: cir 1685 in Musen) and was married to Mary Elizabeth Fischbach, the eldest daughter of Philipp and Elizabeth (Heimbach) Fischbach shortly after arrival at Germanna. (circa 1714/1715) Entries in the Germanna Families database on Rootsweb shows some contrary information...ie, Melchoir's date of birth specifically stated as 2 September 1695 and further reports that he and Mary Elizabeth Fischbach were married in 1513 in Bavaria prior to leaving on their long journey to Virginia. I would be most excited to find that new information has been found on this family, but would love to have some information on the source for this new information before changing my family history database. Melchoir and Elizabeth Fischbach are my only connections to the Germanna community, and seeing that Melchoir's line daughtered out. My line continues from Melchoir and Elizabeth's daughter Mary Catherine and her marriage to Christopher Wendel/Windel/Windle/Windell Looking for some saged advise from this learned list on reconciling this conflicting information. Best Regards Hope Carnicle
Recently when I was in Owen County I found in the McGibney Cemetery Record Susan Martin Lyons and William O'Banion 11 from Fauquir Co. VA and dying before 1812. They are in my family line and may be the parents of Bryant O'Banion Sr. and ? (not sure) So I am interested in the program. Two O'Banions married into the Cobb Family. Just curious, what will the First Family of Faquier applications look like? Have they already been developed? Cathi
I would imagine that we could all volunteer by helping Sgt George and Cathi Clore Frost build a big database of the Germanna families, and then have a volunteer email a scan of a First Family of Fauquier applicant to a volunteer on-line to key the new data into the Germanna Database. If we have a number of projects like this that build on one another -- First Families of Fauquier, First Five Generations of the 1717 Colony, Germanna Revolutionary War Veterans, Germanna in the Civil War -- we'd be buiding the database methodically and sequentially, with the goal of finding all descendants we can in the six years alloted to us for the 300th Jubilee of Germanna in 2014. My husband tested through Relative Genetics and they were bought by ancestry. I don't think familytreedna is connected with this company at all. Different companies test different markers which is a pain when you are trying to compare results BUT the price is good. Everyone else in the family tested with family tree. Sometimes to clarify a relationship you need to go to 67 markers so it would be good to make sure that whoever you test with -- offers everything that you would want - now or in the future. All of this really does not pertain to Germanna per se -- except that it is a subject that all of us as family recorders need to be aware of -- to help us in research of our Germanna connections. Take care.
