Hi all, I knowthat you all had a great time at the reunion. I thought y'all over theweekend. I found a couple of Orange Co., VA references on John Thomasthat I need help trying to decipher if it was the English John or myGerman John. At least there only seemed to be ONE Michael Thomas inOrange Co. records so that was a help. If the names connected with the references were other Germanna names --I just claimed that John as the German one but one had no namesconnected and one had unfamiliar names -- so anyone know these people Orange Co., VA Order book July 1742 John Thomas, having taken the ususal oaths, was sworn to his military comminsion of Ensign. Not sure what oaths they are speaking of BUT if it was oaths of allegiance -- he took them in Jan of that year Orange County, Virginia Order Book 3, p 313 28 January 1742 [OS] Andrew Garr, John Adam Garr, Lawrance Garr, Lawrence Grays, DevaldChristler, Martin Vallick, John Zimmerman, Peter Fleshman, ZachariahBlankenbucker, John Zimmerman alias Carpenter, John Thomas, ChristopherUhls & Frederick Bomgardener, German protestants having produced aCertificate under the hand of George Samuel Klug Minister of the German Congregation in Orange County that they withintwo months last past had received the Sacrament of Lords Supper, prayedthat they might partake of the benefit of an Act of Parleament made inthe thirteenth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George theSecond by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of ye faith &c Intituled [sic] an Act fornaturalizing Such foreign protestants and others there in mentioned asare Settled or Shall Settle in any of his Maties [sic] Colonies inAmerica Its on their Motion ordered that they take the oath appointedby Act of paliament to be taken instead of the oath of allegiance &Supremacy & the abjuration [?] oath and Subscribe the test wch they all Severally didaccordingly between the hours of Nine and twelve in the forenoon &Its therupon further ordered that ye Clerk give them a Certificate oftheir having taken the afd oaths & subscribed the Test With all of the Thomas family being so active in military endeavors --this was my FIRST reference to anything military for John so it seemslogical -- that he took the oaths needed-- and then was appt to themilitary. Marilyn, Thank you for offering to share. I would like a copy of your project. Hi all, First of all, I am still out of town until late Sunday night so I am not ignoring your requests for copies of my map project -- thanks to so many of you for your interest. Second, I spent my time on the plane -- proofing this effort -- and found so many items that I need more information for -- like book and page numbers-- so please consider this a very rough draft AND if you have info on an item that is missing info --it would safe me lots of time if you could share that with me. Third, I am actually visiting family in Utah so while they go do activities in Park City in the AM, I am going to be dropped off at the library and HOPEFULLY find some of the missing source info for Orange Co., VA- I REALLY, REALLY want to find the deed from John Thomas to Henry Aylor. Take care, Marilyn Hope everyone has a ball at the reunion. I am certainly there in spirit.
Marilyn, I would also like a copy, thanks! Perhaps this has already been mentioned....but I am afraid to finish reading and then send it....for fear I'll never think of it again. August 2005 on a jaunt to VA I found the below in abstract form from Deed book 10 pg79 6 Nov 1764: To all Chirstian People know that I Jacob Miller of Town of Woodstock in Parish and County of Frederick...for and in consideration of the Love and Goodwill and affection which I have and bear towards the mimbers of the Lutheran Congregation Settled in and about the said Town of Woodstock for the greater advancement of the Protestant Religion have given granted and confirmed unto Martin Fulse Frederick Dellinger and Frederick Hanger forever in Trust and for the sole use of the members of the said Luteran Congregation.....two certain lotts of half acre each in Town of Woodstock known by number 140 and 141 to Erect and build a Church theron and a school house if necessary.....Witnessed by Joseph (H) Hawkins Gabriel Jones Peter Hog recorded 5 Dec 1764 this is signed in German.

Parents of Benjamin Garr Wilhoit? Thanks for the other information. Irv
This is a pretty big deal to have Don Raye shown as a Germanna descendant. Can the Wilhoit researchers focus in on this to post a documented tree on the internet? I would like to have the Germanna Foundation link to such a tree. Here is an attempt to explain it as easy as possible (from what I have so far) that might be up for discussion. First, the Will of Jacob MILLER the husband of Barbara (soon to be Barbara OTT the wife of Henry OTT). Their proven children by this will are: Ulrich aka Wolrick (1735-) Jacob (1737-1777) Barbara (1739-1814) Susannah (1743-) Christian (1744-1836) Mary (1745-) Martin (1747-) "Frederick County, Virginia Will Book No. 3" Page 339 Jacob MILLER Will: 24 Feb 1760 Probated: 3 Jun 1766 Named as his wife: Barbara to enjoy his entire estate. After her death to be divided among his children. Named as his children: Ulrich, to receive 100 pounds less; Jacob, Jr. to receive 50 pounds less; Barbara; Christian; Susannnah; Mary and Martin MILLER; rest to receive a full amount of his estate. Signed by Jacob "M" MILLER Executor: Barbara MILLER, wife. Witnesses: George DEACON, Adam YEAGER, John COOK and Henry OTT. Page 349 Jacob MILLER Inventory: 5 Aug 1766, 5 Aug 1766 Value of estate given as the sum of 527 pounds, 3 shillings, 1 pence for book debts, crops, farming utensils, horses, household items and furniture, notes and stock. Report taken by George SELLER, Sr., George SELLER, Jr. and Henry FRAVELL Received by J. A. KEITH, CC Second, the Will of Jacob MILLER, Jr. (1737-1777). I believe that his wife Rebecca was the daughter of Adam YEAGER. The two you spoke of that sold the Piney Woods land in Madison County to Piney Woods, John YEAGER in 1772. I need the deed information to this land if anyone is willing to share it. "Shenandoah County, Virginia Will Book A" Page 116 Jacob MILLER of Dunsmore County (now Shenandoah County) Will: 1 Nov 1776 Probated: 25 Mar 1777 Named as his wife: Rebecca to have my lot in the Town of Woodstock, Number 72. Named as his wife: Barbara Named as his son: Abraham to have the plantation where he now lives adjoining the town of Woodstock. Named as his son: John to have home plantation where I now live. Named as his son: Peter to have plantation adjoining my old place which I purchased of Samuel STOVER. Named as his daughter: Barbara, deceased and Barbara's heirs to have the Mill and plantation below the Town of Woodstock. Named as his daughter: Elizabeth to have several tracts of land lying in County of Rockingham. Named as his daughters: Susanna; Catharina; Christina; Anna Maria. Mentions: land on top of Blue Ridge in County of Culpeper to be sold. Executors: Isaac STRICKLER, his son-in-law and John ROADS Witnesses: Levi KEENAN and Samuel STRICKLER Christian was married to Christina WISEMAN and Susannah was married to Peter WOLFENBERGER. After Jacob MILLER, Sr.'s death, his widow Barbara and her new husband Henry OTT sell off the Woodstock lots and so forth. So there is loads of documentation there. I would like to put the YEAGER marriages into this part of the MILLER family, in my records, if they occurred or determine that they never happened. I don't know if any of this helps. Betty probably knows the particulars concerning this part of the MILLER family. Chocy
