Are you saying that those who go to ANY of my (or any other) ANGELFIRE sponsored webpages are being "pinged" by the Lycos/Angelfire people, and having THEIR material taken ... or were you refering to the site itself being "pinged"? All the data ... graphics, etc is "stored" at Angelfire thru FTP, wouldn't a firewall would prevent it (the page) from being accessed? This is the first time I've heard this "accusation" ..... if true, would it also apply to sites done thru YAHOO / GEOCITIES ... ANCESTRY / ROOTSWEB .... and others like them? Simply put, "pinging" is a means of seeing how fast it's sent ... and where your email is routed through ... in most cases it's a tool used by programmers and "pro" website developers There are many sites where a "ping" utility can be found / downloaded ...... TUCOWS would be one such place All told, I wouldn't get overly concerned, unless you've got some extremely "sensitive/personal material on your computer.
