Well, if everyone is bored let us start a new topic... Ellis Island.. I was heart broken when I searched the site and did not find my grandfather who came over in January 1909. [And, I checked variant spellings] A email friend from another site searched records for me in Salt Lake and there he was right where he was suppose to be on the right ship, right dates, right connection, right everything except he is not listed on the Ellis Island site.. she sent me the information while he was held in detention waiting for his friend, right down to how many meals he ate while he was being held. I have a big smile now knowing all the info that I had gathered is, in fact, true but my kids or grandkids will not find him on the Internet. Gail
Hello everyone, I had tried to get info from the Ellis Island site a few times but it was always busy. However, yesterday I decided to try again. I found my Dad who emigrated in 1922 and several other folks from the same town who had emigrated about the same time. I was really pleased I was able to find so much. One thing to keep aware of is the inaccuracy of some of the information on the site. My father was listed as being 3 years old when he was actually 23. The town he was born in has an extra-long name and only the first part of the name was listed as his hometown. I found other misspellings for other people. And of course, as many folks have mentioned, there are many people who are not listed when they should be. I was pleased though, that I found as much as I did. Not once was I kicked off and only my own time constraints were the reason I had to leave the site. Mary Ann > Well, if everyone is bored let us start a new topic... I think they care enough to get data updated and corrected. Fred
