A source states that a Jacob/John HOWARD, born in Leipzig, a Hessian soldier, "took the name Howard" and fought in Burgoyne's Campaign in the Am Rev. Research shows no Hessian Howard, but it does show a Herchner from Leipzig, as well as 2 Richter and Mueller who were Hessian soldiers who fought in Am. Rev. I know that my Howard line is of German heritage, although the name Howard traditionally is not German, so it would support the notion that he "took" the name Howard. I have traced my Howard line back to 1790 in Cambridge, Albany County which is the vicinity of Burgoyne's Campaign. How can I possibly connect my Jacob/John Howard with his family in Leipzig if Howard is an alias? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Nancy Rose
