Present: Joshua Maddox, Esquire The Foreigners whose Names are underwritten, Imported in the Ship Neptune, Capt John Mason, from Rotterdam and last from Cowes in England, did this day take and subscribe the Oaths and Affirmations to the Government in the usual Form. No. 169. (the whole ships list is then shown, including the following of interest to you) Henry (X) Lipps As I understand it, the X means that's how he signed his name. Also in the same book, on pages 84, 86, 87 there is a listing for "Hendrich Lips, age 25" on the ship Adventure, 23rd Sept 1732.
