Thanks to everyone who wrote with search hints, & to Doug Nicol for his list of books. (And to Russ for his very nice comment.) As I mentioned, I do have 2 books about my one ancestral town of Schale. The other town, Sonneborn, is more of a problem, although a cousin may have a lead for me on that one. I realize both of these towns are in Westfalen which is not covered by this list, but both are border towns & have connections outside of Westfalen. A search on Amazon.com under "history" & "Germany" came up with 91 hits. I haven't had time to look through the whole list yet. Sometime soon I'll go to our library & fill out more inter-library loan requests. I've done it so often that they joke about giving me my own space in their file drawer! Thanks again.
