    3. Dieter, Don and GK List Members you are the best! After you gave me the following hint about the place of my ZSCHAU ancestors birth: > Here is one: Söllichau is 6 km northeast of Bad Düben (and 22 km east > of Bitterfeld). Southeast of Söllichau is a village named Wöllnau > (12 km far away), and about 7 km away in southwestern direction you find > another village called Wellaune. All locations in 1843 belonged to > the province of Saxony in Prussia, county of Merseburg. > Today Söllichau is in Sachsen-Anhalt, but the both villages now belong > to the Free State of Saxony. May be that you must search for documents > in Saxony, too. Next to Wöllnau and Wellaune in Saxony are Bad Düben > and Eilenburg. > > * Dieter I wrote to Pfarramt Wöllnau 04838 Eilenburg Germany (Thank you Don!) on May 16th and actually received a response in the mail TODAY! I sent 2 IRC's and asked them to check their baptism registers for a record of my 2nd great-grandfather Gottlieb ZSCHAU. I provided all the information I have on him. Anyway, I think I received an extract from the Wollnau Church book of Gottlieb's Baptism rcd. Unfortunately, his father's name isn't mentioned (We think it was Gottlieb as well) and it doesn't look like his mother's maiden name was listed either. But, on the back of the baptism extract is a list of other people, possibly godparents or witnesses to the event but I could use some help me with it. I'm not sure what it says. I also received a hand-written letter, presumably asking for payment and something else that I can't quite make out. I would be most grateful if someone might help me with the translations. http://home.att.net/~microfilm/COBapt_GZschau.jpg (Front of the Baptism extract) http://home.att.net/~microfilm/COBapt_GZschau_back.jpg (Back of the Baptism extract) http://home.att.net/~microfilm/WollnauPfarramtLetter.jpg (Letter asking for payment & ?) Thank you ALL so very much for being so helpful! This truly is a breakthrough for me just finding his place of birth! Nancy
