Anybody got a clue where Machtenburg might be? I suspect it is in Mecklenburg but I have been unable to locate anywhere that might be it. The name was used a birthplace on an Naturlaization in 1893 of Wilhelm Hageman who imigrated in 1883.
You may mean Machtesberg, which is northeast of Regensburg. Today it is part of 93449 Waldmüchen, in Bavaria. ;~) Don http://go.to/Hessen ----- Original Message ----- From: Holly Timm <hollyft@bright.net> To: <GERMAN-KINGDOMS-L@rootsweb.com> Anybody got a clue where Machtenburg might be?

Holly, the closest I found on the 1883 map was Magdeburg, or Magdeburg-Friedrichstadt, or Magdeburg-Neustat. The upper 2 are in Brandenburg and the other in Saschen. Interesting country.
