Slight corrections: "Carolus" isn't Latin but is the Latinized version of the Old High German name "Karl" or "Carl" (engl.: Charles) and "Caroli" is the genitive of Carolus, not the version for Charley! The name Karl means "man". The German word "Kerl" which originally was another form of "Karl" is used in modern German in the sense of "guy".
