    3. Thanks to all who responded to my question. The reference I have to Chemnitz is in Mecklenburg-Schwerin as the birth place of the 1st born of my GrGrandparents, Johann Hienrich DITTMANN & Maria Christian Freidericke LUCHT in 1856. The reference to Kemuitz is the supposedly marriage location of the above named GrGrandparents in Nuestrelitz, Mecklenburg Strelitz. Re: the reference by Jurgen Frische to the "ADAC Atlas Deutshland" - would this distinquish between counties, cities & villages? thanks again - still learning Andy - Guam USA

    3. Hi Andy, as the ADAC atlas shows, no (currently spelled) Kemnitz is situated in the Mecklenburg area. Only the village of Chemnitz, about 5 miles west of the town of Neu-Brandenburg, is in Mecklenburg. That makes it easy. Chemnitz was also the spelling in 1904, and the official Mecklenburg map of this year shows it belonged to the easternmost corner of the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, whereas Neu-Brandenburg belonged to the Duchy of M.-Strelitz. The Duchies' border was between Chemnitz and the villages Weitin and Zirzow. The map is named "Mittelbachs neueste Specialkarte der Großherzogtümer Mecklenburg-Schwerin und Mecklenburg-Strelitz", is of the year 1904 and currently re-printed. The editor is : Horst Hup Ernst-Ludwig-Heim-Strasse 19 13125 Berlin Tel +49 30 9414870 He's also editor of the "Kiesslings Große Karte der Provinz Brandenburg" re-print of 1902. And yes, the "ADAC Maxi Atlas Deutschland" is mainly a great road map but also distinguishes between Federal States, districts and counties (the capitals are underlined). ISBN 3-87003-864-0.
