The "ADAC Maxi Atlas Deutschland" currently shows 2 Chemnitz places and 7 Kemnitz places. And Dieter is right: only the city of Chemnitz in Saxony is a city (and also a county = Kreis), the other ones are villages and thus only belong to a certain Kreis which would be named different. Btw, regarding e.g. the search for locations in current Germany, this atlas is strongly to recommend for genealogical purposes as it shows even the smallest village here. The maps are of scale 1:150,000 and the index lists more than 90,000 places in current Germany. This atlas should be available at Amazon or Barnes&Noble. The problem with names such as Chemnitz and Kemnitz is, that both placenames are pronounced the same (ch = k). And this dualism is also shown on old maps: e.g. current Kemnitz near the town of Pritzwalk was spelled Chemnitz on a Brandenburg map of 1905 ... Andy has to know which place of them (in which area is it?) is meant in the records; only then it would be possible to decide (better by using a contemporary map) if the spelling has changed between "Ch" and "K" or not and if it is the same place or not.
