Sharon, You sent this message off list to me, and I don't know the answer. You may have meant to send it to either the GERMAN-KINGDOMS list or the PRUSSIA list, since I receive both of those. I'll send it on to them, and see who knows the answer. The place of residence of the Ahrenberg family given in the NY passenger list in 1851 is Kohlenfeldt. It is not listed in Rudolf's gazetteer nor in Neuman's 1894 gazetteer. Does it appear in Mueller's Grosses Orts-Lexikon von Deutschland or another early gazetteer? HCD

I am trying to get information about my grandfather, Christian Heinrich Schakel, born 4/19/1864 in Prussia. He immigrated to the USA (Indianapolis, IN) sometime during the 1880's. That is all the information that I have. He died 10 years before I was born. I would like to know the names and statistics about his parents and siblings. It would be very helpful to get any replies in English - - I do not read German. Thanks, Paul C. Brandt

Someone please tell me how to get into the records of the Morman Church. The address I have always comes back with no name listed and my dad folks have been her since 1854. My mothers folks have been here since 1774 and the address I have has no record of either or me and I'm been here 77 years. Help. sWayne Ulbricht---dale6755@juno.com.
Wayne The records in the IGI and Ancestral Files on the LDS site is information submitted by people like ourselves to the church for inclusion in their files. If the information was never submitted then there would be no records. I've never found any of my family in their IGI and Ancestral files but have found thousands of them on microfilm of German church records that I obtained from them. Someday I will submit all the information I have on my family and then it will be available to anyone and everyone. If you go into their sites Family History Catalog you can search for information by name and place. If there have been records microfilmed you will see information about them, the film number etc and then you can go to your nearest LDS library and order the film for a nominal fee. Usually the loan period is about 4 weeks; they have microfilm readers available at their libraries. For instance, I do research in Rodheim Hessen. I search on Rodheim and pull a list of all the records available, then I order them. Good luck! That would most likely be the 20th Division. "Husaron" should be "Husaren," auf Englisch, "Hussars." You do not say what the dates on the Karte are, so I'm assuming it is the First World War or before. The unit was raised in Braunschweig. I wish I could be of more help, but all my military links seem to be outdated and regrettably, none of my references are so recent.
I am looking for addresses to find the following info: 1) Records of Medical Degrees in the early to mid 1800's in Germany! 2) Records of Military Service in the Prussian Army 1840-50! Can anyone assist me? Lewis Chaplick "Your friend in New Jersey, U.S.A."
Hi everyone, I have ancestors from Schwerin, Germany. Karl Fritz and Catherine Kineman or Keinman. They used to live very close to a brewery there. Does anyone know of any breweries in Schwerin? Legend is that they used to send the children to this brewery(?) to buy beer for the father's dinner.. regards Trina Angelfire for your free web-based e-mail. http://www.angelfire.com
Hi folks, I have a copy of the draft exemption of one of my ancestors. The notice says" The draftee Bernhard Anton Kreinberg has been declared exempt from the military draft in the present military conscription based on rule 29 of the draft regulations, and the legitimacy of his exemption is hereby attested to. Altenburg this 19th day of April 1837. The Altenburgian Recruiting Commission of the District of Saxony. Does anybody know what rule 29 was? Thanks, Grant Kreinberg
I have a copy of what I think as a military ID on my great-grandfather. On the cover it states Armee=korps. ?? Division (am not able to determine if it is a 20 or a W) ?? Cavallerie Brigade Braunschw. Husaron Regimt ?? --------- Militar=Bak des August Hunzelmann It appears that he was in the army for 2 years from dates within the booklet. Additionally, there is an inked stamp which features a leaping horse within a circle of letters. A portion of it has faded but BRAUNSCHWEIG is a portion of the circle. Below the horse is Husaron Regiment. How and/or where would I look to get further information on this item. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Sue Wallenius
