Hello Do somebody know the history of the parish Stift Quernheim near Herford, the Stift Quernheim monastry and the Bredenkamp farm that is still in the village Klosterbauerschaft. In the archives of Stift Qeurnheim is deposited at the Staatsarchive of MÜNSTER the history, is there somebody that can investigate it for me at the archives and see if there is any information about the Bredenkamp family, and any other information about the above information. There is a town Kirschhausen east of Heppenheim in Hessen-Darmstadt. I can imagine that an Australian would spell it "Kishason". But it is only a vague idea. * Dieter
I am helping my neighbor whose grandfather's surname is KUCKUCK pronounced like a cuckoo clock. They have been told there is a connection. Where is the making of the cuckoo clocks most prevalent? Any information re this will be appreciated. Edy
Hello, the name KUCKUCK is the German spelling of cuckoo which is also a birds name and the area that those clocks are prevalent is in the Black Forest in southern Germany in Baden-Wuerttemberg. That is where they are made mainly. Sincerely, Iris Davis and I hope this is of help. My ancestors were reportedly born in Sachsen-Meiningen. How big of an area was this? Was it part of Thuringia? Did it include Hildburghaus and Hessberg where some of my ancestors were born? Thanks, Jim Meissner Seeking Meissners, Puffs, Brodfuehrers, Schmidts and Amhofs of Hessberg and Sachsen-Meiningen. Hessberg is probably now part of Hildburghaus.
I have an ancestor that was born in "Lobichon, Altenburg". His father was born in Muecheln and I know there are at least 4 Altenburgs in Germany -- one seems to be near Muecheln. Does anyone recognize "Lobichon, Altenburg". Thanks

Hi Roselynne, Alsenborn currently is named Enkenbach-Alsenborn and is situated close to the city of Kaiserslautern in Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz). This area came to the Kingdom of Bavaria (Koenigreich Bayern) in 1805 and was called Bavarian Palatinate (Bayerische Pfalz). You may want to try the Bavaria mailing list. I wrote to two separate archives in Leipzig trying to get imformation on Arno Henry Richter, and his brother Alfred. Arno was born in 1901 and Alfred around 1906 there. I know they sailed on the Westphalia and left Hamburg on May 5, 1928. According to Arno's Social Security application, their father was Karl Wilhelm Emil Richter, married to Anna Bertha Hartung, who were living at Hoferstr.38 in Leipzig in 1928. On April 30, 1931 Arno returned to Leipzig to visit his wife, Frida, who was living at Wasserturmstr.16 in Leipzig at the time. With this information from passenger lists and social security applications being included in my letter, I received letters back from both archives that many documents in Leipzig were destroyed during the war and they could not help me. Can anyone give me some advice on how I can pursue this? I previously posted this request and someone gave me the name of a genealogist named Andre Schmidt who never answered my inquiry. Any help would be appreciated. Al Sullivan of Worcester MA.

For explanation of German districts, states, etc. go to the maps at http://feefhs.org To see current towns go to: http://www.calle.com/world/ If you go to this site in Germany, you will see the miles to the nearest large airport. For old towns go to http://www.JewishGen.org/ShtetlSeeker/ For everything German see the LINKS at http://go.to.HESSEN Have fun. June, For explanation of German districts, states, etc. go to the maps at http://feefhs.org To see current towns go to: http://www.calle.com/world/ If you go to this site in Germany, you will see the miles to the nearest large airport. This one was I think 28 miles from Neurenberg. Muehlhausen 49N 11E 404meter alt. 1325 ft. altitude For old towns go to http://www.JewishGen.org/ShtetlSeeker/ The UE would indicate an umlaut, and there were none. If you go to these and click on the lat.longitude coordinates, you will get a MapQuest map of the town. Hello, I am trying to find Alsenborn, Pfalz, Bayern on the map. My Grandmother was born here in 1850 which I believe was Bavaria at that time. Can anyone help me pinpoint this location? Roselynne Kimbrell Sacramento, Ca
Am i on the right list for researching into Bad Salzbrunn ,it was on the Polish border before the war, in Germany..or should i be on another ?? thanks betty
New to list. After much searching, I believe my ancestors to be Johann Friederich G. Mueller and Johanna/e Christine Wolff who married in Kirchberg, Zwickau, Sachsen on 11 May 1818. One of their children was Frederick Miller/Mueller, botn 23 Oct. 1864 Ehrenhof, Mecklenberg-Strelitz. Is anyone on this list searching these folks? Don't really know how to pursue this any further. Any responses/suggestions appreciated, thank you. Sandy Hayward Michigan, USA
Is Thuringen the same as Thuringia? I know nothing of Germany, etc., but I have a Charlotte (no maiden name) who married William Kloepfel, and she was born in Muehlberg, Thuringen(ia), in 1830. She died in 1906 in Menasha, Wisconsin. Does this make any sense to anyone? Would be thrilled to hear from someone to clarify all this. Thank you. June D. Koeppe
Hello My great grandmother was always said to be from Sondershausen also!! She wasn't!!! However, she was from a village in the Sondershausen diocese. The LDS Family History Center has church records from the Sondershausen diocese up until 1847. I would suggest you order these a year or two at a time and I would guess you will find the name very quickly. Once we located the parish, our family was there almost every single year as someone was being born, married or died. Good luck Roger
I am interested in the Lieber`s and Wannschaffe`s of Hannover. Many of the Wannschaffe`s were millers in Hannover and other nearby areas. Can anyone tell me how to find out about millers. Pat Heisel
