    2. Frank Hummel
    3. HI: In 1804 my ggggrandfather, CASPAR HUMMEL, his wife MAGDELENA (WAGNER) HUMMEL and four children immigrated to Philadelphia, Pa. Of the four children I only know the name of one, JOHANN GEORG HUMMEL, my gggrandfather. I am trying to find out the names of the other children. Also, Casper's brother DAVID HUMMEL came on the same ship with his wife and seven children. I know one son was JAKOB HUMMEL, but I am also trying to find the names of the others. The ships manifest only listed the male names. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Frank Hummel. Please visit my web site that shows were ENINGEN is located. http://members.xoom/EningenGer/Hummel

    3. I would like to add that I'm interested in this information as well. This may have influenced my great-great grandfather's decision to come to America, by himself, at the age of 14 when his parents and, possibly, other siblings stayed behind in Wissentrup, Germany. 1. [GERMANKING] Re: Girls names that begin with "D"
    2. Hi All, I have been reading some church records and have stumbled across a girls' name that I can't read. All I can make out are A (which I think is for Anna) and D. The D has me baffled. There seem to be about 6 letters in the name. The name only appears twice - once in 1683 and then again in 1714. Can anyone suggest a name for a girl that it might be for this time frame? Thank you! I would appreciate it if you could identify for me the volumes containing the name BEHAGHEL (Frankfurt am Main). Also, would a set of the volumes be available anywhere in Australia? I am researching BEHAGHEL, also LANDER (Bonn) and MEYER (Hamburg). Thanks, in anticipation, Eunice Heinrich Byabarra (40 ks west of Port Macquarie, NSW, Aust)

    1. [GERMANKING] Archive E-mail Contact Form Assistance
    2. I have located the file numbers containing the emigration information for both my great and great great grandmothers. At this site: <http://www.archive.nrw.de.kontakt/haupt.asp> there is an E-mail form for contacting the appropriate archive holding the files. I completed the address portion of the form providing the name and address information as is standard here in the US. In return I received an error message that requested that I fill out the fields: Name, postal code and place. Can any tell me whether this site is restricted to German addresses only? What did I do wrong? This is how I completed the form: Line 1 - Dittman, Jerome Line 2 - Left Blank Line 3 - 16924 Bakersville Road Line 4 - 21713 Boonsboro, MD Line 5 - USA Line 6 - Phone Number Line 7 - Left Blank Line 8 - DittDad@aol.com The files are located at Main State Archive of North Rhine Westphalia in Dusseldorf. While we are at it what can I expect the cost of obtaining these records to be? There are 8 pages. Thanks in advance for any information and assistance that you may be able to give. 1. [GERMANKING] Re:illegitimate births
    2. Hi! Have been lurking and am learning a lot from this list -thank you. I am very new to German research(plus I don't know the language.) Tonight, a wonderful "cousin" gave me a bunch of information on my great grandmothers' family. It seems that great grandmother and her older brother were both illegitimate births, then the parents married. The parents went on to have a number of other children. I just wonder why the first two were illegitimate? In my Scottish research, I have found there is the tradition of "hand-fasting". Which basically means that the couple are committed to one another, but for lack of a clergyman or civil registrar - are not formally married. Usually there is only one child born before the marriage takes place. Is there a similar practice in Germany in the 1860's? Thank you for any insight into German life.
