Juergen, My Internet Explorer 5 won't ignore quotation marks either;o) Inez

I have been clicking on this URL out of curiosity ever since it was first sent in and alot of you were reporting problems. I thought since I'm new to using the internet I might have a problem but I get through every time. I use Netscape Navigator. So every browser should (and obviously really does) ignore the " and . at the end which are not underlined and thus not perceptible by browsers as part of the URL. My Netscape ignores the " and it shows no error messages at all. Re Microsoft, I know a nice phrase: "Gates oder Gates nicht?", pronounced like the German question "geht's oder geht's nicht?" which means in English "does it work or not?" ... I don't use the IE, so I'm not able to test this. But I asked a colleague using the IE to do this, and *it worked fine*!!! Perhaps his deaath certificate from Philadelphia will be of use to you in your search. Has anyone heard of the name ZIERLEIN, VON ZIERLEIN ? There is an important reference to a young man of that name who was the assistant of a Duke Paul Wilhelm of Wuerttemberg in 1851. No first name is given, but he was said to have been from Sachsen/Saxony. He disappeared into the prairies and was never heard of again. Any hints from America? Hello, Nancy Rose, To identify a person suspected of bearing an "alias" or the victim of a misspelling is to identify as many collateral facts as possible. A preponderance of the evidence will give you confidence to accept or reject a relationship. For example, John, the illiterate (sic) son of Randall BAGULEY of Wrentham, England, born on February 17, 1689, was recorded in the marriage book in a Massachusetts town as John BEAGELY, son of Rundle, all other facts being identical. The researcher also turned up a signed report in Massachusetts by a resident reverend who certified John's identity because it was he who had baptized John in England. The family name became BIGELOW before its spelling was stabilized. The story is true although I'm reporting from memory and not from the record. The date and state may be in error. Is anyone aware of any good books available on old German printing? I have found several websites which were helpful to me but it would be good to have a reference book on it. I have almost completed translating a funeral card but one word which appears several times has me completely stumped. When you initially look at the word it looks like "cukes". The printing on this word is different from the lettering on the rest of the card. Su_e_ The first letter is an s and the second is a u with umlauts. The script drastically changes on the third letter. It looks like the simple s that is a straight down slash but at the bottom right of the slash there are to circles similar to the bottom of a b. The fourth letter is an e. The fifth letter looks exactly like a small case s with a tail over the top. Does any of this sound familiar to any of you. None of the web pages I've found have either one of these strange letters on it. All of the rest of the old printing was on the websites! I'd appreciate any input! Thanks! Michele Birkner
