    1. [GERMANKING] Port of Entry: Detroit?
    2. Hello, On his Declaration of Intent, one of my ancestors has the Port of Detroit listed as the port of entry to the US from Prussia in June of 1853. Was Detroit used as a port of entry for Prussian immigrants or is it more likely that he arrived on the east coast and traveled to Detroit in route to his new home in the United States? I saw this information listed for several others as well, so the listing of Detroit was not just an isolated error. If I can locate a passenger list I should be able to resolve this, but in the mean time has anyone else seen this listed? AJ

    2. Katharina Hines
    3. Land Regions of Germany Hannover is in the northern plains. Almost the entire plain lies less then 300 feet above sea level. The wide river valleys,as well as the land along the seacoast, have soft and, fertile soil.Between the valleys are large areas coverd with sand and gravel. These areas are called 'heathlands'. The sand and gravel where deposited by glaciers thousands of years ago. South of Hannover starts the Central Highlands. Two of them -the Harz Mountains and the Thueringer Forest. 3. My cousin's g grandfather was Gustav GERTH. She has been told he was from Saxomy (not sure this is spelled right), Germany. In the census it shows Prusssia. We know that he was in Marshall, MS in 1870 and 1880 and the census record showed that he was naturalized in 1865 but we cannot find any record for him. We did find where he was married to a Nancy Harper in the 1880 census and had an orphan child by the name of Hiram McDaniels. He sometime around 1883 married a Lula Mae Robertson (her direct line). Also can anyone tell where Saxomy might be located? We would love to find relatives of this family. 3. Werner, One of the list subscribers recently asked a question on records for Luxembourg emigration. You gave her some very good suggestions on where to look for this information. I have a similar problem and have no idea how to get any answers. My ancestors are from the town of ASCHBACH in Saarland. Aschbach is very near THALEXWEILER where their church was located. They left this area sometime between 1837 and 1842. Can you tell me where to write for information on this emigration? Are there records for this area? Your help or that of anyone else would be greatly appreciated. Frank Kuhn [email protected]
