I just read your request for articles. I have not been involved yet with the organization but my home is in St Paul, MN and I'm living in Prague this summer. Last weekend I discovered my 'cousins' at a reunion of people born in Royau and Einsiedl in Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. They gather from all over to speak their unique dialect and greet old friends and neighbors from this diminishing group. (photo attached) My ancestors immigrated to the U.S. in 1845, long before the eviction of the Sudetenland. Still, they greeted me like a lost countryman and taught me to refer to my 3x Great Grandmother Anna Lenz as 'Groβmutter.' We discovered that I share Fischbach ancestors with the Ortsbetreuerin Hilda Hain. Following the reunion in Dillenburg, Germany, I had arranged to spend the night in a pension at the village of my Groβmutter which is now Rajov, CZ. Her family house was one of several burned in WWII but many buildings still remain. My new/old family members are sending photos of her house prior to the war and copies of records that may be helpful. It was a wonderful experience of welcome and generous inclusion in this group. Perhaps other German/Bohemian Heritage members have roots in the area near Marienbad/Marianske Lanzne. Robin Rainford
Hi Robin, I read your email regarding your ancestors from the "Egerland" with great interest. Both my wife Ilse and I have ancestral lines from that area. Moreover, Ilse has both a Lenz line and a Fischbach line from there (parish of Einsiedl/Mnichov). Her ggg-grandmother Eva Rosina Lenz was born in 1757 in Kschiha/Cihana and that line goes back to a Johannes Lenz born in 1671 in Rauschenbach/Sitiny. These villages 2 to 3 miles from Rojau. Her ggggg-grandmother Anna Barbara was born in 1710 in Lusading/Sluzetin and that line goes back to a Gabriel Fischbach who died in 1665 in Lusading at the age of 60. Lusading is a very small village (primarily a mill called Podhornmuehle). My ancestral lines from that area come primarily from the parishes of Sangerberg/Prameny and Petschau/Becov about 5 to 6 miles north of Rojau. However, the names of Lenz and Fischbach do not show up among them. Do you happen to have the email address of the Ortsbetreuerin Hilda Hain? If you do, please send it to me. By the way, both my and my wife's family were among those who got evicted in 1945/46 from Czechoslovakia (to Austria). From there we immigrated to the States in the Fifties. Since the Iron Curtain fell we have been back in the Czech Republic several times (including the area around Marienbad/Marianske Lazne and our hometown of Krummau/Cesky Krumlov. Good luck in your search.
