This is my first message to this list. My gggrandfather left Bohemia in the 1850s, eventually settling in Dunn County, Wisconsin. Last night I did some searching on the internet and discovered that the digital archives of SRA Trebon have parish registers for Prachatice--or Prachatietz as it's written on headstones in Menomonie, WI. Unfortunately, I don't speak German. I've had some experience working with the Norwegian Gothic script, but I'm still struggling to transcribe and understand what is written in my grandfather's baptismal registration. I'd be very grateful for any assistance. The record is located here: http://digi.ceskearchivy.cz/en/6643/86 My grandfather is on the fifth row from the bottom: 28 Feb 1840, Franz Knops. My goal is a transcription of (1) his row and (2) the column headings at the top of the table. I think I can handle the translation myself. A transcription is more important to me. Hi Marco, hier what I could read: Josef Knops, Mitbürger und der Anna geborene: Wagner von hier, Strumpfwirkermeister. Josef Knops, fellow citizen and the Anna nee: Wagner from here, stocking knitter master. Seeming the priest has forgotten to write the given name from Anna's father.
