After WW2, while the Russians were given the Eastern part of Poland, they in turn, rewarded the Poles by giving them all German parts in the West of Poland, up to the Oder river. The areas lost were East Pommerania, the West Prussian Corridor, Danzig, Silesia, Brandenburg, etc. making the Eastern border of Germany the Oder river. Look at maps from 1880 what Germany looked like and then look at the present map of 2012, and you will see all the territories that were lost to Poland.
