    3. Lars, it is indeed helpful. Thank you for taking the time to transcribe that portion. After reading your transcription, I can now make out the words better. That was exactly what I was hoping to get some help with. With your help, I now transcribe the text in this column as follows... Johan, S:d: Josef Knops, Mitbürger, u der Anna g: Wagner van hier, Strumpfwirkermeister Where... S:d: = sohn der u = und g: = geborene (For reference) I transcribe this column's heading as follows... Name und Stand deb Vater I hope I'm not too much of a nuisance if I follow up with a few questions. (1) I'm a bit confused about the portion relating to Anna where you wrote that the priest seemingly forgot her father's given name. My impression is that the information in this particular column where you transcribed the script is only about the father of the baptized child. (The next column to the right is about the mother of the baptized child.) According to my current understanding, it lists Johan as the father of Franz. It also says that Johan is the son of Josef Knops and Anna Wagner. Am I mistaken? (2) Whose occupation is Strumpfwirkermeister? Does that refer to Johan (father of Franz) or one of his parents? My assumption is it is Johan's occupation since this column is about the father, not grandparents. (3) To whom does the "von hier" apply? Does that refer to Johan (father of Franz) or one of his parents? My assumption, as above, is it is Johan's residence. Many thanks from Minneapolis, Minnesota! Marco P.S. Thanks too to Susan who contacted me offline and offered a translation of some of the text on the page. -----Original Message----- From: german-bohemian-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:german-bohemian-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of HANUSH@gmx.de Sent: Friday, April 13, 2012 10:04 AM To: german-bohemian@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GERMAN-BOHEMIAN] Transcription Help with Baptismal Registration Hi Marco, hier what I could read: Josef Knops, Mitbürger und der Anna geborene: Wagner von hier, Strumpfwirkermeister. Josef Knops, fellow citizen and the Anna nee: Wagner from here, stocking knitter master. Seeming the priest has forgotten to write the given name from Anna's father. Hope it helps Lars Germany

    2. Marco, sorry I was maybe something cursory. Your Franz was the son from Johan(n), who was the son from Josef and Anna nee Wagner. All from the same place Prachatice "von hier" Yes you are correct: S:d: Sohn des u: und g: geborene I know many other records where stood for example (I take your names): Johan, son from Joseph, fellow citizen and the Anna nee Josef Wagner from here, stocking knitting master. It was an error from me. I saw in other records from this page, that the priest had always written only the birthname from this wife and not additional the first name from her father. Sorry. Yes, I think this occupation "Strumpfwirkermeister" http://www.german-hosiery-museum.de/technik/02erfindunghandwirkstuhl/handwirkstuhl.htm pertains to Johan. It stands not by Joseph (only fellow citizen). I think "von hier" means that Anna (and maybe her family) came from same parish how the Knops family. You see for example by the first record above from this page, there stand: Andreas, son from Martin.....Bürger in Wallern (not sure, bad readable) and the Maria nee Kindermann "von dort"..... So it means that Maria's family came also from Wallern "from there", how the family from Martin, but not from the birthplace from Thomas, who was then born in Prachatice. Hope I could to answer your questions. I can not read all this old writings, but feel free to write, when you has another problem.
