hello, I am looking for information about the Leder family, German people who lived in what is now Czechoslovakia before WW2. They were driven out after the war and relocated to various locations in Germany. We were told they lived in "Hammerdorf", but we cannot find Hammerdorf on any map. I believe it was somewhere east of Jena. Thank you, Margaret Johnson
Dear Margaret, Hammersdorf/Hamersdorf has the Czech name of Hamernice now and is north of Senftenberg, which is called Zumberk in Czech. Click on the link below and see some pictures of the area, where they also give direction to access birth certificates in this area. http://www.picturepastime.com/?c=ez&UF=-544825&UN=-770690&DG=PPL Since I cannot attach any maps here, I am sending you ( to your private Email) two old German detail maps of the area and a Czech map for present geographical location. I hope that this will help you along. Margaret, this is what is offered for Hamernice Czech Republic records: *Hamernice* (5864), environs of Pěčín, Soutok, Orlické hory PLA; And for more historical background go to this website: http://www.multilingualarchive.com/ma/dewiki/en/%C5%BDamberk I suggest that you post your request for the Leder family on the German Moravian rootsweb list where you might be better served than on the German Bohemian list. Margaret, Hammerdorf/Hamernice is a small village which belonged to the parish at Himmlisch Rybnai/Nebeská Rybná. The next larger town near these villages is Rokitnitz/Rokytnice v Orlických horách. They are in ENE Czech Republic near the border with Poland. The vital records for Hammerdorf are in the archive at Zámrsk with the records for Himmlisch Rybnai. A quick check showed that the church registers for Hammerdorf have been scanned and are online. The link to information about available records at Zámrsk is here: http://vychodoceskearchivy.cz/zamrsk/matriky/ Open or download the inventory of parish registers pdf file on this page. Then you can search for Hammerdorf within the pdf file. There are links to the downloadable church registers for each parish. The downloadable registers are scanned pages of the churchbooks which have been compressed into large zip files. I would recommend a fast internet connection as the zip files are sometimes huge (over 500Mb each). I don't know why one would ask for information about Hammerdorf/Hamernice on the Moravian list when this village was obviously in Bohemia (in the Adlergebirge)?
