    3. Thanks so much to you, Mary & Aida...from this one posting I have more information that my family has ever had about Grandmother's home. I went to a book store and got some good maps and a book about the area as it exists now...it is a travel book with lots of pictures. I spent the afternoon reading them with my mother, who is 95. She is so happy, as am I. I now have a direction. My goal will be to learn a little more about the family if I can, and to, some time perhaps, visit to see if I can find the place they lived. My greatgrandfather was a miller, and I see this village is right on the river, as I would expect. There is a story about him pulling my grandma out of the river when she fell in as a little girl. I am quite sure this is the right Hammerdorf, near the Polish border, as some of the place names are familier, like Orlick, and with the river running through the village.
