Be sure to try alternate spellings of your family name without relying on their index to find sound alikes. One list member reported that Ancestry has his Baumgartner name spelled "Baumgardner" and it does not show up on any search of their database unless you use that wrong spelling. He said he found Baumgartner spelled correctly at the Hertage Quest website through a library. Karen

    3. For certain people that I couldn't find I did try all last name spellings and then I would omit the last name entirely and look for all people with that first name born within a ten year period of the birth year and place. I would keep widening the criteria and would scroll and scroll through lists. Sometimes I would omit the first name and look for everyone with a similar last name. Then some times I would omit both the first and last name and just look for everyone born in Germany or Bohemia in a give year range. etc. I think some people are just not noted. It's understandable given that some people lived on farms in remote areas. Maybe some were in a hospital at the time....etc. >From: KarenHob@aol.com >Reply-To: GERMAN-BOHEMIAN-L@rootsweb.com >To: GERMAN-BOHEMIAN-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [GERMAN-BOHEMIAN] New Census Database on line --- Is this new >? >Date: Thu, 22 Jun 2006 18:54:02 EDT > >In a message dated 6/22/2006 2:17:28 PM Mountain Standard Time, >netkitty@hotmail.com writes: > It is great for what it is.......it's not guranteed to find everyone of >course. > > >Be sure to try alternate spellings of your family name without relying on >their index to find sound alikes. > >One list member reported that Ancestry has his Baumgartner name spelled >"Baumgardner" and it does not show up on any search of their database >unless you >use that wrong spelling.
