One might think that going to Ukraine, or if you please, Ruthenia, Belarus or other Russian states is too far afield, there is - to this day - a recognized German settlement of 1.2 Million Germans in Russia that might hold ancestral data for people interested in their German heritage or links that would otherwise be lost.
