The state archives in Pilsen used to have a very good website which told of the records they held, told you the new restrictions for using their library, etc. I cannot seem to find it, only one at http:// fred2.plen-city.cz/plzen/org/state-archives/. This site isn't as informative as the one that used to be: www.zcu.cz/plzen/org/state-archives/. Anyone have any suggestions? I also seem to remember Aida Kraus giving a website where the lists (indexes?) of records and towns were found. If Aida reads this, could you pass that website address on to me? Thanks!! Mary, I am so sorry, but I am on vacation and have to access this mail via a computer at the resorts registration office. I do not have access to my files here, but google to this: German genealogy, Sudetenland, Marienbad and there you should find Archives and Libraries. I will try this here and see what I get putting in the underlined text in the search .... just for a trial.... Yes, OK I am getting this, but this site is presently under construction. I copied the entire index and have it on a disc at home. http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/SUD/kreise.html See if you find what you need, I will get on this computer again tomorrow night. Dear Mary Read! I have read your note(below) since my ancestrals do come from Bohemia, I would be very interested to learn more about archives and other document strorage. I find that it is very complicated to enter a Czech source. I have been turned down by Czech researchers, whenever I use my name. They just were not able or (willing) to help. How difficultis is it to research a german name in the Pilsen archives? What is the best way to get results? Thanks O.Weber ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Read" <maryutschig@yahoo.com> To: <GERMAN-BOHEMIAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 30, 2006 9:54 PM Subject: [GERMAN-BOHEMIAN] Website for State Regional Archives in Pilsen > The state archives in Pilsen used to have a very good > website which told of the records they held, told you > the new restrictions for using their library, etc. I > cannot seem to find it, only one at http:// > fred2.plen-city.cz/plzen/org/state-archives/. Dear O. Weber, To find what information is found at the State Regional Archives in Pilsen, read Aida's answer on Thursday, 30 Mar 2006. She gives the website to go to: www.genealogienetz.de/reg/SUD/kreise.html Go to #1 Westbohmen, if this is the area that you are looking for; click on the city you are interested in; on this page, click on the town, again, that you are interested in; then the page shows up with the index for that town. I haven't been to the archives for 7 years, so I don't know what it's like now, but in 1993 and 1999, it was a very good experience. Karen Hobbs has used a very good researcher, so hopes she contacts you with that name and/or names. I can't remember when she suggested one to me, but I've been trying to finish up a project on my mom's side and haven't gotten to this man yet. The old website gave any restrictions for using the archives. In 1999, we could only take a pencil into the research room, amd they had lockers to put your other materials in. You had to buy a stamp at the post office to "pay" for the books you used, but you could keep these books for the whole week or longer, if they knew you still wanted to use them. don't know if it is still like that. Also, the last "old" website I could get into stated that you couldn't use digital cameras in the library. Now that is something I would love to do!! It would save so much more time. Anyway, hope I have been of some help and that you can find something that helps you at these websites. Sincerely, Mary --- WEBER <oweber@vaxxine.com> wrote: > Dear Mary Read! > I have read your note(below) since my ancestrals do > come from Bohemia, > I would be very interested to learn more about > archives and other document > strorage.
