    1. Rutlow?

    3. Hello- Has anyone ever heard of a town called Rutlow somewhere in the former Austria-Hungary? It is listed on my grandfather Anthony Turnwald's WWI draft registration card as his birthplace. His father, John Turnwald, was born in Tuschkau, Bohemia. I believe this town is now called Mesto Touskov. I assume that Rutlow is somewhere in that area. I have looked on ShtetlSeeker and other places but cannot find any reference to Rutlow. The draft card is handwritten so it is possible I am not making out the town name correctly. Also, Anthony came to the US as a small boy and I suppose it is possible that he didn't know the correct spelling of his hometown. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance. 3. You may find information on the underlined blue links for available Church Registers for Tuschkau Village or Tuschkau City, they both are in the region of Mies (now Stribro) near Pilsen. (click on the blue links to see what is available at the archives at Pilsen and then you can hire a genealogist to look retrieve these records.) This is what is available: a.. Tuschkau-Dorf, c. Ves Touskov (Tous^kov) Dorf-Gemeinde, Bez. Mies, GBez. Staab, W B; 513 Ew. (499 d.), l.P. Staab, n.E. Hradcen, Staab. Kirchenbuchverzeichnis des Pfarrbezirks Tuschkau-Dorf, mit Pfarrorten: Tuschkau-Dorf, Kottowitz, Saluschen, Lochutzen, Mirowitz, Nowy. a.. Tuschkau Stadt, c. Touskov mesto (Tous^kov me^sto) Stadt-Gemeinde, Bez. Mies, GBez. Tuschkau, W B; 1472 Ew. (1283 d.), P., EdL. Gmünd-Eger: "Tuschkau-Kosolup" = "Touskov-Kozolupy". - Schulen: 8-kl. gem. Bürgerschule, 4-kl. Volksschule. Kirchenbuchverzeichnis des Pfarrbezirks Tuschkau Stadt, mit Pfarrorten: Tuschkau Stadt (früher auch: Weiß-Tuschkau), Aujezd ob der Mies mit einem Teil von Dobranzen, Dobraken, Kuscht (Guscht), Mislinka, Tschemin mit einem Teil von Gumberg, Wenussen; zeitweise: Krebshäusel, Pantschowa. Since you have no problem with the spelling of Turnwald, you should be able to find a connection in the church registers to the name Rutlow (however it is spelled). You may also write to hans.mirtes@dingolfing.org asking him if he has a list of expelled German families of both places. They sometimes have information on genealogy of other families.
