    2. From today's online version of the Prague Post: Decision awaited The fight for the Hyundai investment in Nošovice escalated in mid-December after Tošenovský announced that the regional government gave up their two-month effort to buy out the land plots from 185 owners needed for the car plant. Six owners, including the farm cooperative, insisted on keeping their land. "We've spent all legal means and there's no way for us to proceed further," To šenovský said. Following the announcement, South Korean Ambassador Hae-Jin Chun told The Prague Post Dec. 14 that while he had been optimistic about the Hyundai deal coming here, the outlook was waning as it appeared that both parties were unable to reach a consensus. In the meantime, the Turkish Business Digest reported that Hyundai was also considering landing its investment in northern Turkey rather than in the Czech Republic. But the vision of losing hundreds of thousands of crowns in compensation for the land angered many of the 960 Nošovice residents. Regional authorities promised that each family in Nošovice would receive 100,000 Kc if they did not oppose the Hyundai deal. Furthermore, particular plot owners whose land Hyundai would take would then be eligible for compensation to the tune of millions of crowns. "Guys here usually fight only for women," Josef Kána, who works in a pub in No šovice, told Mladá fronta Dnes after Tošenovský's statement that he was giving up. "But people got divided and were arguing about whether Hyundai should come here or not." Pressure on the landowners who insisted on keeping their land peaked in the following days when some of them received anonymous letters with death threats, Tošenovský said. "Through your bad decision not to sell the land, I lost money. Because of this, I'll kill you or your family member or some dearest friends," read the anonymous letter distributed via e-mail. Tošenovský said the threats made him initiate increased police surveillance in Nošovice. He said, however, that the final decision, which Hyundai was expected to make soon, would restore peace in Nošovice.

    3. 100,000 Czech Korunas are just US$4,000, and you have to deduct 18% in converting to Euro Dollars Value which amounts to E$ 3,280 and that is no more than a nice 2 weeks vacation! So why bother!
