I have found an obituary for Ferdinand -- I guessed when I did not find him that perhaps he used "Fred" -- and that appears to be so. It does not mention any children, but has the correct wife, brothers and sister. I'd suggest a letter to St. Mary's Church, in McHenry, as you might catch a relative.
