I had browsed records about a year ago on Actapulcic, and although not a quick endeavor it seems that things are loading up verrrrrrrry slowly now. Is everyone having the same issue or is it my system? Takes a good full minute for each page to load, so going page by page is taking what seems like "forever". There had been an announcement that they would be down the 12th and 13th for maintenance of their electrical grid. I too tried and didn't get on this weekend so it must have taken them a bit longer than anticipated. But this morning it came up OK for me. Ken
Does anyone know why I can't get through to actapublica.eu? Are they updating their info and will be down for awhile? I was on it Saturday but can't get it today. Mary
All: I recently consolidated computer accounts. As a result, I had to move the website that contains a partial English translation of Johann Georg Sommer's 1847 description of the Elbogen district (vol. 15 of his series on the Kingdom of Bohemia). Many of you have found this translation useful in the past as background material to learn what the place of your ancestors may have been like 160 years ago. The new address is: http://home.comcast.net/~mhobein/genealogy/bohemia/ Please update your bookmarks and links. -- Urs Geiser (ugeiser@comcast.net) Woodridge (DuPage Co., IL)

You may wonder what this announcement has to do with the list, but I promise there's a connection. Almost three weeks ago, my Oma passed away in her sleep at the age of ninety, and as this list has been a crucial part in the last gift I was able to give her, I wanted to make sure everyone who's helped knows just what they've done and how much it means to me as well as the rest of the family. Thanks to you all, Aida in particular, I was able to solve a few family mysteries and find Oma's family for her while she was still alive, something we'd been unable to do for decades until I stumbled onto this list. It gave her an extra sense of peace before she passed, to know what had happened to her immediate family after 1945 as well as finally find out the family history beyond her parents. I am eternally grateful to everyone who had a hand in giving that gift to her, it meant more to her than I can say. Anna

Thanks so much to you, Mary & Aida...from this one posting I have more information that my family has ever had about Grandmother's home. I went to a book store and got some good maps and a book about the area as it exists now...it is a travel book with lots of pictures. I spent the afternoon reading them with my mother, who is 95. She is so happy, as am I. I now have a direction. My goal will be to learn a little more about the family if I can, and to, some time perhaps, visit to see if I can find the place they lived. My greatgrandfather was a miller, and I see this village is right on the river, as I would expect. There is a story about him pulling my grandma out of the river when she fell in as a little girl. I am quite sure this is the right Hammerdorf, near the Polish border, as some of the place names are familier, like Orlick, and with the river running through the village. Thank you both so very, very much!
