    2. To; indatherkela; You (seems like) easily retrieved an old obit on Katrina (Ditz) Bauer. I've been trying for years to find an obit web site but I always seem to end up far from what I'm looking for. Will you give me the site you use or is it only the Chicago Tribune? Although I do have relatives in that area. Duane Dorman Lincoln, NE

    3. Hi, Is it RIEMER or REIMER ? - you mentioned both in your mail. I only know an organ manufactury named RIEGER once located in the triangle of bohemia/poland/saxony. The company has changed it owners and now is located in Schwarzach/Austria and still is named RIEGER, exporting big church organs to the whole world. Bernhard Braza/Austria -----UrsprĂĽngliche Nachricht----- Von: CWarschak@aol.com [mailto:CWarschak@aol.com] Gesendet: Freitag, 30. Dezember 2005 06:34 An: GERMAN-BOHEMIAN-L@rootsweb.com Betreff: [GERMAN-BOHEMIAN] Gebruder Reimer Organ Co. - Kratzau, Bohmen, Austria I am searching for any information regarding the Gebruder Riemer Organ Co. that was once located in the village of Kratzau (now Chrastava), near where the German/Polish border meet the northern border of the Czech Republic. I am the owner of a crank organ that was manufactured by this company. The organ was imported to Texas in 1893 by a Czech immigrant. The music is contained on three giant wooden drums, each containing nine numbers. The numbers are German and Czech polkas, waltzes, marches, laendlers, etc. and at least one Polish number. Originally, the family also imported another smaller organ but it no longer exists. The organ was played frequently over the past 100 years at wedding dances and other occasions but now we only play it on special occasions. I would like to know more about the Kratzau Brother Company and the organs that they manufactured. Carroll Warschak Waco, Texas ==== GERMAN-BOHEMIAN Mailing List ==== Forgotten how to UNSUBSCRIBE? Very easy to use and if you have ancestors or family in the Chicago area, it is worth playing around with the search. Some of the obits go back to 1915, but most appear to be post 1940. Worth the go of it though Bill for info on the jewelry store. 1. Bauer family in Chicago and McHenry
    2. Linda Therkelsen
    3. Just a comment on the census -- I already found all of the family in the 1900, 1920, and 1930 census and sent this on to Gerhard. They lived continuously in Chicago through the 1930 census. In fact, it is a little interesting, all of the children still lived in the same house with Katharina, their mother, in 1930, though adult -- but not married. Some or all of the children must have moved after that to McHenry, for Gerhard had the address. And the later obits stated some lived in McHenry, which of course, is much closer to Rockford. I felt lucky, actually, that I could find those obituaries in the Chicago Tribune, when they really lived fairly far away. They must have had friends back in Chicago who they wanted to know about the death of one of their sibs. So there is really not much point in looking for other census in other counties until the 1940 census is released. BTW, in the 1920 census of Cook County, there were 650 people named Bauer! I was having a little trouble with the 1910 census, but decided since I already had established their approximate years of birth with other census, I didn't have to work at it so hard. The point was REALLY to find descendants. Sooooo... still hoping someone can look up obits for George and Edith in the Houston Chronicle (they were not in the Chicago Tribune as a duplicate, I already checked). If there is no one here who can do it, we could try Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, or I can order microfilm rolls myself. I kind of assumed from the location of Huffman, that it's a suburb of Houston. While another Bauer in Huffman is interesting, using Whitepages gets 80 listings of the name Bauer in the Houston area. Me, I would like to narrow it down a little! Linda

    2. Hello list and a happy new year to my favorite group of researchers! To respond to those wonderful people who have already helped Mr. Reichl, and to Mr. Reichl himself, I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and can tell you that McHenry, Illinois is two counties west from Cook County (where Chicago is). McHenry is in McHenry County which, even now, is a good hour and a half, maybe more, from Chicago. (A county is like a "Kreis" in Germany.) (I have learned the hard way that not all towns are in the county of the same name.) If I were looking into the Censuses, I would focus on Cook, Lake, and McHenry Counties in Illinois. To get from Cook to McHenry County, you have to go through Lake County. It may be that people stopped off along the way. I have ancestry.com and can do a look up if needed. For the film, it's a long shot, but I would suggest checking with the Library of Congress. The way to register a copyright for a work was to fill out a form and send it along with a copy of the work to the Library. They have an on-line search function that could be useful. The University of Illinois Library also has HUGE holdings, an on-line card catalog, and a searchable image base. I would also try the Newberry Library in Chicago, which also has a searchable card catalog. Finally, I would suggest the Google images database. By the way, I have just discovered Google Earth. What an amazing tool for researchers! It was more fun that any of the Christmas presents I got, and the basic service is free. I flew around Mount Everest last night! 3. My name is Gerhard Reichl and I live in Germany near the border to Czech Republic. All my ancestors come from Bohemia in the former kingdom Austria-Hungary. Today it is Czech Republic. Many of my relatives have emigrated into the USA. To some of them we found contact again. To the relatives of my mother we lost contact after World War II. Descendants of Katharina Ditz: 1 Katharina Ditz, Born: 09 Nov 1872 in Neudorf, Bohemia, (Died: probably 27 Febr 1940 in Chicago, Cook) .. +Georg Bauer, Born: (probably 23 May 1866) in Neudorf , Bohemia, Married: in USA ........ 2 Georg Bauer, Born: in USA ............ +Edith, Born: in USA, Married: in USA ........ 2 John Bauer, Born: in USA ........ 2 Ferdinand Bauer, Born: in USA ............ +Lillian, Married: in USA ........ 2 Margaret Bauer, Born: in USA ........ 2 Joseph Bauer, Born: (about 1898 or 1901) in USA Katharina Ditz is a sister of Rosalia Ditz. Rosalia Ditz is my grandgrandmother (from my mother's side). Katharina Ditz and her sister Maria emmigrated 16 and 17 years old into the USA (I think in 1887 or 1888). They lived in Chicago. In USA Katharina married Georg Bauer which came from Neudorf, too. Maria married a man from Germany. Katharina and Georg Bauer had 5 children (Georg, John, Ferdinand, Margaret, Joseph). About 1937 Joseph Bauer visited Neudorf in Bohemia. He mas a mechanical engineer. He made a movie about the life in the village Neudorf. He went back to USA and never anybody in Bohemia or Germany had seen the movie. Joseph was not married and so I think he will have no descendants. But two of his brothers were married. Perhaps this movie still exists. This would be great. You know there is no movie about Neudorf before the expulsion in 1946 and there are not many photos. About 1938 Margaret Bauer lived in : 3411 N. Springfield Ave., Chicago, 18, Illinois (I think Joseph lived in the same house) Later then Joseph, John and Margaret lived in: 2009 N. Woodlawn Park Avenue, Mc Henry, Illinois 60050 I think the 5 brothers and sisters will be already dead. But there may be any descendants of Georg and Ferdinand. Maybe somebody can help me to find contact. Thanks.

    3. After spending a little time in the census, I can realign the order of the children and give estimated birth dates. I will send the images directly to Gerhard. I note that the correct name of the husband is Joseph, as in the obituary which identified Katharina Bauer nee Ditz, and in all the census records. But for anyone helping with this: (exact death dates not given, as obituaries may be printed 1 to as many as 5 days after a death) Katharina Ditz born 09 Nov 1872 (Nov. 1873 on 1900 census) d. 27 Feb. 1940 Chicago immig. ~1887-1890 +abt. 1898 Joseph Bauer born Aug 1870 d. bet. 1920-1930 Chicago immig. ~1885 Nat. 1891 (occupation on census saloon keeper) Ferdinand Bauer b. 3. Hi Gerhard, I was born in Pfraumberg and visited Neudorf with my father as a little boy. My father was the local Doctor and Neudorf was in the Pfraumberg area. I had some correspondence with a Dietz decendant in the USA,but lost all my data when my computer went down. If I remember correctly, his Dietz family came from near Neudorf. Between Neudorf and Dianaberg and worked for the Graf Kolowrat family. In Pfraumberg we had also a Dietz family and he thought he may have been related ? I will check back in my records to see if I can find some further information . Dear Gerhard, Because I have had a lot of success lately with searching newspaper obituaries online, I went right to that, to confirm Katharina's death and to see what it says about her children. I found it right off, but unfortunately it does not mention the grandchildren. It does show that Joseph her husband has also already died, however. I copy hers here, and will go back and look for more. Probably will need to look a little in the census for some birth dates. Of course, there are some problems with the frequency of the name Bauer! 3. Hello Lavrentiy: Thanks so much for the info you furnished. I enjoyed looking at the web sites, so much interesting information there, too much to absorb at one opening. Will look more soon. The Frieda family came to the U.S. in 1882 with six living children and four more later. The birth certificate of one of the males states; he, his family and his grandparents were from the area of Kunewald [now Kunin]. On census records for Texas from 1900 to 1930 there are at least a half dozen different parts of Austria and Moravia listed. The University of Wisconsin furnished me with marked maps for the Kunewald/Kunin area. At the time I wrote they I had not seen the Magyarorszag, Austria listing. Thanks again Susie ----- Original Message ----- From: Laurence Krupnak Sent: Monday, December 26, 2005 11:42 AM To: GERMAN-BOHEMIAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GERMAN-BOHEMIAN] Where is Magyarorszag, Austria ?
