In my case I have the persons' names, birthdates and immigration date and ship name and ship's list but NOT what city they came from. 2. Yes, you would need the name of the village. There are some years that the census is not available for. In my situation, I got them for Hostau (Hostoun) and Haselberg (Liskovec). I gave them the surname and asked for info on anyone living there. The info that is on the census is nationality, religion, ability to read or write, field of occupation, position of occupation, kind of establishment where their work is done, birthplace, family status, sex, given name, birth date, mo. and year. You of course get the house number of the residence.

    1. potos of civil war soldiers from US special collections
    2. It is possible to order copies of civil war photos from the US archive at Carlisle, PA. http://www.carlisle.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html I entered Minnesota as a searchword and got 255 hits. I scanned them and there are some group photos and some of individuals who are named. I did not take the time to look at all of them. The same search should work for any state if you know you have an ancestor who served in that war. My husband's PA ancestor was in a New York regiment so sometimes you have to look outside your local area. Karen

    3. Hi, I used the Czech Census Searchers a few years ago and they provided me with 28 census records from different households of Hanousek family in Bohemia, all with English translations and copies of original documents. They are very good and if and when I have money to spare I will use them again for further research. 2. tripod??? I would think a legit bs would have their own domain .. not a free one that comes and goes like tripod??? might be wrong...but I think I'd double think that one Pam ------------------------ Pam, one of my own business websites is at tripod. Karel Kysilka's very important website about Moravian research to include rare maps and charts of court and other districts at various time is also at tripod. When you are savvy enough to create your own web page I don't know why you should pay someone else $2000-3000 to do it for you -- especially if you are trying to get something started and cannot foot that kind of expense at the beginning. A domain name can be had for $35 depending on where you apply. Then it becomes expensive to register it with various search engines -- too expensive for many startups. Many "private" domain names are used by scammers with the "Nigerian scam" and the "UK travel agent scam" or "UK lottery scam" being typical. I don't believe that I would avoid any business just because it did not have its own domain name or a "professional" website. Karen

    2. Just to let you know that they seem to be very honest. I contacted them several weeks ago, with the details about my ancestors. They replied that the census records for the areas I was interested in were not available for the years I needed. They did not charge for the search.
