www.actapublica.eu I went on vacation and came back and it appears the Czech Archive website has received a makeover. I also noticed the village of Drahotin is now missing from Plzen. Does anyone know what is happening? Thanks for your help.... and insights. Mark Prokosch

I am having the same trouble with villages in the Plzen Archives.  I can bring up books from starting with "Be" and "Bo", but not one that starts with Br or any villages starting with C through H.  The magnifying glass disappeared from the "Obr.data" column on most of the villages when they changed the web site and the Matriky cannot be viewed.  I haven't been able to find out why they disappeared either or when or if they'll be brought back on-line.  I'd also to find out if anyone knows what is happening at the site.  I've tried e-mailing and asking in the message boards, but they do not respond. I have German a ancestor from Mörsdorf, Rhineland names Johann Vogt Heser whose daughter Maria married Johan Hermes daughter of Jakob Synodale Hermes. There descendants include the Kaster (Castor) families of Depere, Wisconsin. In the 17th century, Peter Castor was a Gerichtscheffen and Johann Wendling was a Sendschöffe, both from these ancestors, indicating some kind of civil court office. The name Synodale is apparently from the Greek word "synod" which is a meeting or council. My assumption is that this name descends from an ancestors who was a member of a Frankish town counsel or assembly. Vogt is from Latin "advocatus" pertaining to an overseer such as a sheriff or bailiff. The Vogtland was created by the Holy Roman Emperor in the 11th century which includes parts of Bavaria, Saxony, Thuringia, and the Egerland in north-western Bohemia which areas were ruled by ecclesiastical and administrative vogts from the 11th to the 16th centuries. I have found the word Fogt or Pfogt used in front of some surnames which the surname seems to be a close spelling to the name of the town that a baptism is taking place. I have seen this in baptism records from the early 1600's that are written in Czech. What is the meaning of Fogt? Thanks, Carl

There were quite a lot of Jungwirths from South Bohemia, especially around Glöckelberg (Zadni Zvonkova) who moved to St. Paul, Minnesota.  However, if you know for sure he was born in Habern, that probably won't help.  The records for that South Bohemia area, however, are in Trebon. Thanks Michael.  I tried all sorts of ways and could bring up only a "B" Parish, Bezdruzice.  All my other Parishes, C thru H, do not show the magnifying glass, so I guess they are not on-line now.  I hope they put them back on-line soon, as I have discovered two more names that I want to check on in Celiv and Domaslav and was making some break-thrus.  All my Grandmother's lines are in villages in the Plzen Archives so far, and I had gotten some of them back to the mid 1600s. Glad to know that those Parishes are not on-line right now and that is not my computer Browser not bringing things up correctly.  I have been having problems with it, Firefox, but IE (which I'm reluctant to use) and Chrome didn't work either. Will just keep checking and see if they get back on-line.  There was a note on 10 June that said the Pilzn Archives were back on-line after an interruption. Mary, Once you log in, I am assuming you got that far, then you should be at the frame labeled " Vyhledáváni". There is no longer an English translation option. Hello, Michael and Others. Do you know what other Parishes have been taken off the site?  Since the pages changed I have been unable to load Bezdruzice, Celiv, Cernosin, Dolni Jamne, Domaslav, or Horni Kozolupy from the Plzen part.  I had printed a lot of the pages, but do need more from those and from some others in the vicinity.  I had printed many of the pages I needed, but still have more research to do in those parishes as well as Lestkov and Krst which I am hoping will be on-line soon. Mary, There are two possibilities for Koenigreich . One is a town 123 miles southwest of Wien ( Vienna ) in Austria, the other is Konigsgnad which is 17 km from a town called Deutsch Bokschan which are in modern day Romania which in the time period you mentioned was Hungary. Deutsch Bokschan is the best possibility for Deutschboran I could find. I think the two towns in Romania are likely the ones you are looking, since they are close together.
