Hello all, I'm writing to let people know about a project I contributed to this year - a DVD of pedigrees (family trees) and emigration information. The title of the DVD is: "Genealogies of Families that Immigrated to Sauk County, Wisconsin, from Bavaria, Germany: The collected works of Georg Ederer, Otto Horz, and Hansjörg Schneider" If anyone has ancestors who came from lost Bohemian villages such as Grafenried (Lucina), Anger (Upor), Seeg (Pila), and Wassersuppen (Nemanice) near the Czech Republic and German border and from villages near Waldmuenchen (in the county of Cham), Oberpfalz, Bavaria, then this DVD may be of interest to you. Georg Ederer of Waldmuenchen has been doing genealogy research for many years, for many different families - mainly donating his time and talents. His research took place in archives such as the Bischöfliches Zentralarchiv in Regensburg, the Staatsarchiv in Amberg, the Matrika office in Klentsch (Klenci Pod Cerchovem) Czech Republic, and other church archives. Late last year, all of his pedigrees (handwritten and typewritten) were scanned to jpeg images by Christa and Willi Senft. Many of the family trees are very detailed and span several generations. The purpose of this DVD project was to preserve Mr. Ederer's work and to make it more easily available to researchers. My task was to organize and index all the last names and town names that appeared on each page of the pedigrees. This project took many months and was finished at the end of summer this year. Professor Ken Kraemer, co-author of this project, had the DVD produced in California. The DVD became available for sale in Plain, Wisconsin, in October. The reason it is being sold in Plain is that many of the emigrants from Waldmuenchen area towns settled in the Plain area. Proceeds from the sale of the DVD goes to the Old Franklin Township Historical Society in Plain to further historical preservation of the museum and family history projects. For DVD ordering information, see the Old Franklin Township Historical Society website: http://www.townoffranklinhistoricalsociety.com/id16.html You can see a complete index of all that is available on the DVD at Gary Haas' website: http://garylhaas.site.aplus.net/ehs/dvd_files.htm Gary's "Plain History Genealogy Group" meets in Plain every other month. Meetings are open to anyone interested in history and computers: http://garylhaas.site.aplus.net/ehs/ Also of interest on the DVD is a 1939 dissertation by Otto Horz, then a student of the Phillipps-Universität in Marburg-Lahn, who researched emigrants from the Waldmuenchen area. The dissertation contains information for over 2,000 individuals and 400 families. The DVD includes a booklet and essays about emigrants by Hansjoerg Schneider of Waldmuenchen. These works appear as PDF files on the DVD and are searchable. Because there is so much available on the DVD, a "getting started" booklet was written - also included on the DVD. A press release about the DVD can be read at my website: http://sites.google.com/site/auswanderer20/Home The DVD has received press coverage in several Wisconsin newspapers, WRCO radio station in Richland Center, Wisconsin, and Waldmuenchen area newspapers. For people living in Germany, the DVD is available for purchase at the tourist office in Waldmuenchen. Tourismusgemeinschaft Waldmünchner Urlaubsland e.V. Marktplatz 16, D-93449 Waldmünchen. Tel.: 09972 / 307-25. To read more about this project in German language, we have posted info at the Ahnenforschung.net forum: http://forum.ahnenforschung.net/showthread.php?t=60461 ~Debbie

Rootsweb and the SSDI...no longer available via Rootsweb. Why? The "sensitivities" RootsWeb refers to are likely related to a recent news story about criminals using SSNs of deceased individuals to commit tax fraud. Friends, no one has to register to use the https://familysearch.org. It is free and if you simply put in this url it works and shows the home page. From there you can navigate to find the records you want or enter the person you are looking for right on the main page with whatever info you have for the person, birth date, date of death, place born, etc. EASY.
