Johnson, 85, of Gering, formerly of Lyman, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Heritage Estates in Gering. Her memorial funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Lyman with Pastor Cindy Bowker officiating. A private family interment will precede the funeral at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill. A memorial has been established to the church. Online condolences in Ruth's name may be sent, and candles lit in her honor may be done at www.jones-mortuary.com. Ruth was born March 29, 1927 at Lyman to Alex and Elizabeth (Schafer) Meininger. She attended school in Minatare and Huntley, Wyo., and graduated from Huntley High School in 1945. She married Bill Dean Johnson on March 13, 1947 at Lyman. They farmed the Table Mountain area in Goshen County together all of their lives. After her husband died, Ruth continued to farm their land with her son and grandson. She was a lifetime member of the church. Ruth loved to bake, crochet, sew, quilt, and play scrabble. Later in her life, she was a member of the Happy Hour Club. Survivors include her daughter, Peggy (Ron) Miller of Torrington, Wyo.; daughter-in-law, Gayle Johnson of Lyman; grandchildren, Robin (David) Davis of Scottsbluff, Mark (Karey) Johnson of Lyman, Doug (Brenda) Miller of Scottsbluff, and Kim (Monte) Stokes of Torrington, Wyo.; sisters, Rose Benzel of Ft. Morgan, Colo., Bertha (Marion) Smith of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Freida (Ed) Minch of Gering; and brother, Eddie (Kay) Meininger of Scottsbluff; seven great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Ruth in death were her parents; her husband; son, Bob; three brothers and two sisters.
