Could someone tell me if there are any German-heritage stores in the Dakotas or in areas where Volga Germans have settled in great numbers like in Nebraska? There is still a store like this in Calgary called Edelweiss Imports. From what I recall a family from the Odessa area owns the business at 1921 - 20th Ave. NW - www.edelweissimports.com Anyway a German from Russia Christmas is highlighted by German food, customs and goodies at this time of the year. The Bauernkalender (farmer's calendar) for 2013 is very nice and at $19.95 cheaper than ordering it directly from Germany. It has lots of warm folksy story-book scenes from the Romantic period and just perhaps German-speaking and other lands in Europe are going through a 19th century romantic and Biedermeier revival. I have been in recent contact with Bern Deichmann (he used to work for Schulerich - the bell and chime company) who is on the board of the German-American Heritage Foundation and recently stepped down from his position as the president after serving for 10 years. The GAHF would like to "connect" with GR organizations wherever they are located. Horst Gutsche
