    1. Re: [GV] Seeking for Ancestors
    2. Hi Tom. Here is some information that may be of help---some of it you may already know. I'm not at all an expert on Basel, but since there doesn't seem to be a village coordinator for Basel I'd thought I'd see what I could find for you. Saratov Archive has Basel church records of births 1861-1874, 1891-1917; marriages 1864-1867, 1877-1915; and deaths 1892-1917. Engels Archive has Basel's church records which are included under the Barataevskoye (Bettinger) parish records. Births 1780, 1792-1796, 1798-1799, 1804-1815, 1806-1833; marriages 1831-1861. Reportedly Engels Archive also has a Basel Census for 1850 and some sort of village roster or family list for 1866. Brent Mai at Concordia University has the Basel Census for 1857 [alternatively LDS Film #2373695 in Russian]. AHSGR has the Basel Census for 1798 and 1834. Of course they also have for sale Dr. Pleve's 1768 First Settlers Lists, 1766 Kuhlberg Ship Lists, and Volga Transport Lists. AHSGR Village Files for Basel includes a hand drawn map of village Basel and description of which families lived in the village and on which streets. You might also be interested in AHSGR Journal, Vol. 18, No. 2 (Summer, 1995) for the article "A Journey to Our Ancestral Village, Basel on the Volga," by Edythe F. Robinson. Bill Pickelhaupt mentioned the Memorial website which is a great idea. Try looking in Russian for your surnames of interest and also try Basel or whatever name was used circa 1940: _http://www.memorial.krsk.ru/eng/index.htm_ (http://www.memorial.krsk.ru/eng/index.htm) Finally, here is a link to a couple of photos of Basel: _http://wolgadeutsche.net/kakorin/_Basel.htm_ (http://wolgadeutsche.net/kakorin/_Basel.htm) Good luck with your research!
