Digitalization of the "Argentinisches Volksfreund" Dear members of the list: One year ago, I sent to the list a message about the digitalization of the publication Argentinisches Volksfreund.("The friend of the Argentine people").This popular magazine was published between 1895 and 1960 in German for the Volga German immigrants and who came from Russia to Argentina. It was also read in other places of Argentina with german speakers (by example Misiones and Cordoba). The last news: 1.-The digitalization has finished (more than 95.000 pages - 31 Cd), and there is a web page about this theme, in Spanish and German. You can translate it from the following web site: http://www.argentinischervolksfreund.es.tl/ 2.- According with Dr.Klein, the journals of 1917 were not found. If they appear in the future, will be incorporated into the digitalization. 3.- By the moment, the complete digitalization will not be free in the web (problems of copyright). 4.- From this URL you can watch some examples of those old obituaries and a listing of them: http://argentinischervolksfreund.es.tl/B%FAsqueda-geneal%F3gica.htm 5.- The Volksfreund was a catholic magazine, so I suposse that all the deceased of the listing were catholic people. 6.- A free Excel spreadsheet with a listing of 6805 obituaries: db.tt/ROdUlGs7 (I have the last version of this listing, with 90 obituaries more. If you are interested on it, please send me an email to my address). 7.- My explaining of the Excel sheet, made with information obtained from the obituaries. First column: Contains surname and name of the deceased. The obituaries (and reminders) of married women are written in two different ways. By example, my great – grandmother Anna Maria Walter (married surname Waimann) In the row 6437 she appears as WAIMANN Ana Maria g.Walter (the letter g. is ‘geboren’ – born) In the row 6459 the same person appears as WALTER Ana Maria (Waimann) Second column: Date or year of birth (if it was published in the journal) Third column: Place of birth, in Russia or Argentina. In brackets, the place of death. Fourth column: the phrase ‘con foto’ means that the obituary includes a photo of the deceased. 8.- According with Dr.Rene Kruger, the 31 CD and the books with the Volksfreund (in paper) can be consulted free of charge at the library of the ISEDET, in Buenos Aires: http://www.isedet.edu.ar/ I am planning to visit this place in the coming months (if my work and family let me). If someone recognizes an ancestor in the listing and wants a photo of the obituary, I shall try to send it, if you have the patience. Of course, if any of you come to visit my city, we can go together to investigate. Merry and Christian Christmas to all the list, (and please, forgive my mistakes in English) Gerardo Waimann Buenos Aires - Argentina
