Billings Gazette Billings, MT 27 Dec 2006 CULBERTSON - Betty M. Schroeder, 80, of Culbertson, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at Roosevelt Memorial Hospital in Culbertson. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. MST, Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Bethel Community Church in Culbertson. Pastor Rich Ramsbacher will officiate. Cremation will take place after the service, and burial will be held at a later date at the Lakota Cemetery, in Lakota, N.D. Betsy Marie Simons Schroeder (Betty) was born Jan. 29, 1926, to Orlando and Vesta (Blevins) Simons in Michigan, N.D. She was raised on the family farm six miles north of Michigan, moving into town after her father's death in 1941. She was baptized and confirmed in Michigan and graduated from Michigan High School as Salutatorian in 1943. Betty attended Mayville State Teachers College that summer, and began teaching in the fall with an emergency certificate. This began a teaching career that would include rural schools, two room schools, and elementary classrooms in Nelson and Ramsey counties in North Dakota, and would also include Montana schools in Poplar, Kremlin, and concluded with 21 years in Culbertson. Many of Betty's summers were spent receiving continuing education at Mayville, and she received her BA degree from there in August 1970. She retired from teaching in 1990 after 42 years of teaching. Betty married Raymond John "Ton" Schroeder in 1950. They were blessed with two daughters, Linda Rae and Donna Jean. Ton's two daughters, Raynette and Deanna, were also an important part of the family. Betty was a member of the Bethel Community Church in Culbertson. She enjoyed Bible Study, working on her computer, crocheting and dearly enjoyed frequent fellowship with her lady friends (the Golden Girls). She was active in her church, serving as the Sunday School superintendent for many years, working in the church and in the community as needed. Betty also assisted at the Culbertson Library for a number of years after her retirement. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Stephen) Faulk of Olympia, Wash., and Donna Seeger of Moorhead, Minn.; stepdaughters Raynette (Clayton) Dull of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Deanna (Randy) Petty of Westport, Wash.; grandchildren Chris McMullen (Heidi), Anton Faulk (Melanie), Dustin Faulk (Sasha), Brandon Failing, Owen Seeger (Samantha) and Alicia Seeger (Brad Knutson); and four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Noah McMullen, and Hannah and Lucy Faulk. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ton; and an infant sister. Betty trusted in the Lord, with Him being her strength at all times. She put her trust in what He has done for us, as she would say often, "Oh! What a Savior!" Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service on Wednesday, Dec. 27. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Williston, N.D., is assisting the family.
