    1. [GER-VOLGA] Obit Esther Gunther
    2. On June 15, A.D. 1916, the Lord God granted to Oral and Mabel (nee Day) Roots the gift of their first daughter, whom they named Esther. She became the second of six children, and was born in Hardtner, Kansas. Her second birth came on January 1, 1925 when she was baptized into Christ and her was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on February 23, 1947. As an eldest daughter, Esther received important duties when she was nineteen years old, due to the death at that time of her mother. She moved to Pratt, Kansas and eventually to Chicago for a period of time then returned to Kansas in the late 1930's. On December 9, 1939 she married Alexander Karl Gunther in Wellington, Kansas. God bestowed upon her three children: Alexander Karl Gunther JR., Raynona Lee (Bohrer), and Maurice Clark. During her life Esther greatly enjoyed music, especially opera, and for many years had a beautiful singing voice. She also proved skillful in sketching and calligraphy. Her life was greatly changed when she was stricken with blindness, and for twenty-one years she served on the Advisory Board of the Wichita Radio Reading Service. For many years she also made great use of this program. She exemplified for those who knew her many Christian virtues, not the least of which were the patient suffering of afflictions, and a tender concern for others, especially her children and grandchildren. Early in 2006 she was moved from her home in south Wichita into a nursing home in Haysville Kansas, And she passed away on December 24, 2006
