Greeley Tribune Greeley, Colorado 02-06-2007 Jan. 31, 1915 - Feb. 4, 2007 Age: 92 Residence: Denver Tribute: Mary Schmidt was born in Sugar City to Jacob and Katherine Margaret (Kauffman) Ginther. She moved with her family to the Peckam area in 1917 where she attended Big Bend school. She lived most of her life in the Gilcrest area until five years ago when her health declined and she moved to Denver to live with her daughter, Mariann. She spent the past two and a half years at the Hallmark Nursing Center in Denver. On Feb. 21, 1934, she married Harry Schmidt. He died in 1964. Mrs. Schmidt retired in 1981 from the RE-1 School District. She was a custodian and bus driver for nearly 30 years. In some instances, she drove two generations of kids to school. She also went to Hawaii with the school band. Her greatest gift was her devotion to her family. She enjoyed baking and making her family's favorite German dishes, including noodles and butterballs. She loved Polka dancing, playing cards and board games, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting and embroidering. Her love for Polka took her to Germany with the Al Holma Polka Band. She loved Colorado sports teams, especially the Broncos. She attended Broncos games with her family and had the opportunity to attend one of their Super Bowls. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Greeley Moose Lodge. When healthy, she spent a lot of time cooking at both the church and the Moose. She also had been a very active member of the senior citizens groups in Gilcrest until moving to Denver. Survivors: Daughters, Mariann and husband Vern Grams of Denver and Patsy and husband Jack Sullivan of Loveland; five grandchildren, Sandy and husband Mark Warner, Steven and wife Carol Grams and Bill and wife Luann Grams, all of Denver, Kris and husband Harlan Boone of Johnstown and Wendy Erbes of Loveland; a stepgrandchild, Jim Sullivan; seven great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a stepbrother, Harold Schmidt and wife Mickey of Greeley; and stepsisters, Rose and husband Bud Neilson of Denver and Esther and husband Everett Feurstein of Greeley. Preceded in death by: Her parents; her husband, Harry; two brothers, Jake and Johnny Ginther; three sisters, an infant sister, Maria Ginther, Mollie Ginther and Edith Wolfe; three stepbrothers, Herman, Alex and Albert Schmidt; and a stepsister, Leah Wiebert. Celebration of life service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Visitation: 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley.
