_Maser, Catherine_ (http://obits.mlive.com/BayCity/DeathNotices.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonID=86287036) Maser, Catherine East Tawas, Michigan Catherine Maser, age 99 years, died peacefully on January 31, 2007 in East Tawas. Born September 16, 1907, in Lincoln, Nebraska, she moved to AuGres when she was eight years old with her parents, Henry and Emma Herzog; sister, Marie and brothers, Henry and John. She married John Maser in 1924. They had three children: Clinton who died in 1998, Bernice (Vaughan) who died in 1969, and Corrine (Eddas). The young couple bought the AuGres Telephone Company which consisted of 60 cus-tomers. They endured hard times when John contracted tuberculosis after only three years of marriage, and they had to care for two young children plus run a company. Catherine operated the switchboard for 23 years and managed the bookkeeping while John was the "telephone man.'' When they were old enough, Clinton helped John, and Bernice helped Catherine. In 1949 the company switched to a dial system. John died in 1961, but Catherine continued running the company with the help of her son Clinton. Clinton's sons Ross and Alan also worked for the company. Eventually the bought the Omer phone company and grew to well over 1000 customers. In 1978, when Catherine was 72, she sold the AuGres Telephone Company to Century Tele-phone Company. She moved to Tawas Village in 1997 but still considered AuGres as home. Catherine was a long-time member of the AuGres United Methodist Church and an active participant for many years. She also belonged to The Telephone Pioneers of America and took several trips overseas with tours sponsored by the Pioneers. In her younger days she loved to sew, crochet, knit and needle-point. She was a loving, generous mother and grand-mother who loved to have her family around her. Even in her 90's, she did not think of herself as old. Catherine is survived by her daughter, Corrine Eddas of California, special daughter-in-law, Elsie Maser of AuGres; five grandchildren: Janet Haenline of Freeland, Alan Maser and Ross Maser of AuGres, Brad Vaughan and Brian Vaughan of California; nine great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren and brother, John Herzog of Bay City.
